On draft at Beer Rev. It pours golden with a nice fine white head. The aroma has some funky yeast with a hint of smoke. The flavor is massive smoke with some strong notes of phenolics on first taste. Not very pleasant. After a few sips my palate became adjusted and I kinda enjoyed this one. I really love the Aecht smoked beers, but this was probably my least favorite. The light malt presence and spicy yeast character just accentuated the smoke to a borderline unpalatable level. Maybe my palate was just shocked though, because it sort of grew on me later on.

Draft. Amber beer with a whitish head. Big smoke and bacon aroma. Smoke and malt flavor. Medium bodied. Smoke and light malt lingers with light grain.

On tap, poured into a pint glass. Mostly hazy light tan/brown color. Nice thick creamy off-white head. Good lace. It’s got that classic, satisfying-super-smoky Aecht flavor. Light, crisp carbonation, dry texture. Savory salty taste. Quite possibly the best smoke beer for a session. Really doesn’t taste much less smokey than their doppelbock (my favorite from the brewery). Just a lighter body, from what I remember.

Poured on draft. Appearance is a darker gold, almost amber color, with a white head of foam. Good head retention. Aroma is fairly smokey, with notes of barbecue sauce coming through pretty well. The barbecue translates over to the taste, but it isn’t an overpowering taste. The amber-ish ale is still able to come through, but the tastes complement one another. Interesting beer. I wish I had a little more regular access to this brewery.

Draught at Rich O’s Publick House: Burnished golden. Creamy white ring deposits wispy lace. Greasy, petroleumlike smoke aromas, with a light note of sugar cookie, smoked cracker dough, mineral, browned biscuit, peach marmalade and apple peels. Soft, compact carbonation. Spicy licorice-tinged hop bitterness is firmed up by a stiff dose of minerals and equally firm woody smoke. Delightfully fluffy smokiness, with nary a hint of ash or astringency. Some faintly apparent juicy esters emerge alongside a suggestion of orange preserves. Sturdy malt is deepened with some springy and grassy hay notions, though it loses some of its sound structure as a bit of wet hay begins to creep in. Vibrant hop flavor imparts some dense yet somewhat succulent texture to the otherwise smoke- and mineral-charged center. Plentiful aniseed-tinged hops accompany a lively yet thoroughly fulfilling blend of dry malt and breaths of smoke in the finish. A straightforward version, more or less, with that telltale Heller-Trum cleanliness and balance. A fun quaff.

Pours a fairly-clear medium copper color with a good off-white head and some nice lacing. The nose brings some light bread and toast plus just a touch of smoke. Much, much better than Schlenkerla’s other beers, which tend to be far too smokey, in my opinion. Flavor is a good blend of Helles and rauch, definitely leaning heavily toward the former. Light body and nice smokey dryness to the finish. This would be a fantastic summer beer.

A very nice drinking rauchbier. Goes down smooth. ABV is low so it is very drinkable.

Hazy deep gold, nice head. Nose is campfire, light toasty malt, slight grassiness. Flavor is campfire, lt. Iodine, nice toasty malt, slight smoked whitefish, a bit of thin malt rounds it out. Lingering smoke & lt. Wood.

draft at Blue Monk, Buffalo. Pretty clear Helles like appearance. Milder somke & woodiness in the aroma. Flavor is also pretty mild in terms of smokiness, nice though. Satisfying & very drinkable,

Solid smoke nose...light tawny color. Decent off white head with good lacing. Nice light sweetness from the malt, but thin. Almost a lighter version of the marzen.
