BlackForestCO (819), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Nov 7, 2009 Bottle. Pours a deep ruby-brown color with an inch and a half thick, rock off-white head that receded to a thin layer and left some spotty lacing. Aroma of sweet brown sugar, honey ham, charred wood, peat, and some earthy leather. Smooth, lightly sweet entry with some hints of honey ham leads into a smoky charred wood flavor with some hints of sweet brown sugar and undertones of leather that linger into a moderately dry, smoky finish. Light carbonation and smooth, slick mouth feel. Overall, a rather simple, yet enjoyable smoked beer that gives you everything it advertises. Good stuff. phildeez316 (1), Charlotte, North Carolina, USA does not count Nov 5, 2009 Bottle. It was indeed thinner than expected, but not in a bad way. Aroma was barbeque-ish, like bacon cooked over an open flame, with a slightly sweet undertone. Full smokey taste on front and back of mouth. This was my first rauchbier and I look forward to the next. JulienHuxley (165), Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada Nov 5, 2009 Bottle. Nice very dark reddish pour with a pillowy white head. All meaty, salty, bacon smoke aromas. Taste is nice smokey especially in the return after the first swallow. The mouthfeel is the real downer here, watery and flat unimpressive. Not soo good!
Smokey without a body!
Have a caracter- so there is the rating! Carabia (23), Itä-Raasepori, Finland Nov 4, 2009 Reddish brown beer with a small head that leaves some lace. Lots of smoked ham and some hops in the scent. The smoked ham dominates the taste aswell, but it’s also got some slightly sweet malts, and a little coffee. PrinceofNessus (234), Westminster, Colorado, USA Nov 2, 2009 A good beer. It pours very dark with almost no head. The aroma is heavy with woodsmoke and reminds me of bacon. The palate and mouthfeel of the beer were thinner than I had expected, but not unpleasant. spkldhenlvr24 (446), Newburgh/Buffalo, New York, USA Nov 1, 2009 Bottle from Village Beer Merchant. Pours a deep dark nut brown with a reddish tint. Large fluffy off-white head. Aroma is campfire, wood, with some burnt malt and hops. Flavor isn’t as smokey as the aroma but definately there. Caramel malts, medium bodied. Smooth, very easy drinking. Good Smoked. obguthr (984), Poquoson, Virginia, USA Oct 31, 2009 Smoked pork and campfire aroma. Garnet brown, clear pour with a thin head. Tastes of smoke and charred wood, with a cola finish. Much better than the weizen rauchbier.
