Ughsmash (2833), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Apr 5, 2007 Bottled. Poured a clear reddish-brown with a well-maintained cap of beige head... thick, thorough lacing. The aroma was remniscent of a smoldering campfire and well-smoked sausage... deeper down were caramel, mild alcohol, and fresh autumn leaves... nice stuff.
The flavor was a tad sharper and less refined.. brown sugar, caramel, and intensely-smoked malts... salty with some very well-smoked lunchmeat.. sharp around the edges (I was struggling with the source, and I think BeerBelcher hit it with seawater). Medium-bodied... left salty bacon on a long finish. Solid drink.
jbuzz (414), South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Jul 21, 2008 Smoked Beer tasting at Three Cellars Milwaukee. The glass smelt like and open fire while cooking bacon. Malts and smoked flavors balance well in this brew. esjaygee (687), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA Jul 20, 2008 Amber with a thin off-white head. Aroma of smoked meats with some malts mixed in. Taste of overpowering smoke with a dry mild hoppy finish. It’s okay, not sure I’d want to have that much of it. I know they put the words "marzen" on the label, but with the overpowering smoke this could have been anything. Perhaps MillerCoors or A-B could smoke one of their lagers and make it semi-drinkable. greenleaf (78), Florida, USA Jul 20, 2008 Bottle 1pt 9 oz. Pours a clear deep brown with no head and minimal carbonation. Nose is definitly smoke. Taste is creamy smoke and malt with a slight infusion of hops on the back end. Like I said the carbonation is very low and the palate is not very exciting. If you like drinking BBQ this is for you. Archibaldo de la Cruz (16), Finland Jul 20, 2008 Dark amber colour with a medium head. Strong aroma of smoked ham. Medium-bodied beer with flavour of smoked ham and tar. Aftertaste is also quite smoky and a bit bitter. Definitely worth trying. Very delicious smoked beer. KingpinIPA (813), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Jul 19, 2008 Bottle via beerlando. Reddish brown color. Smell of malt, smoke, light roasted coffee and caramel. Tate of smoke, roasted malt and hops. Nice balance of the malt and smoke.
