Pours a clear brown with amber highlights and sustainable tan head. Smoke aroma is terrific. Flavors of wood and peat come out as it warms. Slightly astingent in the finish. As one co-worker puts it: ’beef jerky in a bottle!"
I love this beer. thegreenrooster (1853), St.louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Sep 26, 2008 Pour is a murky brown with a foamy tan head. Aroma is smoky and meaty and reminds me of cooking on a campfire. Flavor is less smoky then the aroma but its still there. It leaves a bacon/roasted ham on the tounge as this goes down. Its different, I’ll give it that but this is not for me. I still gave it a fairly decent score b/c I can tell this prob takes a lot of effort to make and it is as advertised. Now I’m going to have smoke burps for the next 24 hours. mrw1zard (54), Birmingham, Alabama, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 25, 2008 Deep reddish black color with a creamy head. Smells like the smokehouse (no pun intended). Taste like a smoked Turkey (or Ham) on Thanksgiving day. Almost over the top - but more of just to the edge. Nice brew. 17thfloor (1519), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 23, 2008 Pours a deep glowing garnet with a large frothy creamy beige foam. Smoked ham aroma, salty and slightly sweet. Heavy mouthful with sparse but lively carbonation. Sweeter malt taste, lots of wood and smoke, salty, with a unexpected dry and bitter finish. Like pouring sugar on a campfire. begbie100 (166), Oulu, Finland
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 16/20 | Sep 21, 2008 500ml bottle. Thick light than head, dark reddish brown color. Sweet smoky malts aroma, little bit metal. Flavor is smoky too. Lighter than I expected, but well balanced. Nice one. Holdwine (909), Beertimore, Maryland, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 19, 2008 On draft at Max’s. Wow, can you say smoky? Great balance with a touch of beef jerky. You can’t put this down, although a little too complex to quaff. Enjoy and look for the prunes in the finish. Berserkir (38), New York, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 14, 2008 Updated: Sep 15, 2008Poured from a bottle. Dark brown, light tan head. Aroma is smoke and meat, if my eyes were closed I would assume I was smelling a smoked pork loin. Tastes of smoke, rich meats with malt and caramel notes. The taste can linger for hours. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 14, 2008 Pours deep mahogany with ruby highlights, nice tan coloured head that subsides over time. Aromas are dominated by smoked and cured meats, with some sweet smokiness lingering in the background. (not unlike asian sausages- smokey and sweet) Palate provides more cured/smoked meat with sweet vienna malt providing some hinting caramel characters. Finish is long and malty sweet with feint smoke characters coming through. The ultimate beer for rich meals!
