Bamberg’s speciality, a dark, bottom fermented smokebeer, brewed with Original Schlenkerla Smokemalt from the Schlenkerla maltings and tapped according to old tradition directly from the gravity-fed oakwood cask in the historical brewery tavern.

Bottle, 50cL. Home. Many thanks to @Jaghana ! A sparkling clear red brown beer witha big off-white creamy head ; average retention. Smoky aroma, salmon, roast, herbs, caramel. Light to medium sweet, light to medium herbal bitter ; nice balance. Good body, silky texture, good carbonation, sweet smoky sweet finish. Overall, oh yeah... fantastic smoky aroma ; great balance. Merci encore Pascal !

My first description "it’s like drinking a campfire". Clear dark brown color. Aroma, well, duh, wood smoke, though that mellows on subsequent sips, and then the malt and breadiness comes through. That first sip...wow....quite intense smoke. The taste also gets more complex as time goes on, with a little molasses with the malty sweetness and just enough hops. Unique and very easy drinking thanks to the lighter consistency. It would be interesting to have this beer with some barbequed brisket.

50cl @ bottle. Birra dal colore scuro con un forte sapore di affumicato. Molto beverina e ottima nei pasti.

Poured the exact colour, carbonation and head as root beer. Strong smoke, barbeque sauce aroma. Thin texture. Strong smoke flavour. The first draw is surprising. Almost overpowering. Within a couple mouth fulls, the smoke mellows. A sweet flavour coming out. Mildly bitter middle and medium length finish. Very good. Nice winter beer.

500ml bottle into glass. AMAZING nose, like BBQ sauce. Clear maroon beer with small tan head. No carbonation. Tastes like a normal dark lager but the finish is all smoky sweetness. What a great beer! Really, really good. No, seriously, really good.

Appearance- nice big frothy (light) mocha colored head that lasted a good bit with (surprisingly) minimal lacing. Medium dark mahogany brown. Fairly clear. Smell- holy smoke!!! The nose was overwhelming immediately after pouring. All I can think of is the aromas experienced while waiting to be seated in a BBQ joint. Taste- bacon/pork, jerky. Mouthfeel- medium body. Smooth and creamy. Overall- good, different. Would have again but only with the right food/meal. Recommend for no other reason than to experience this unique brew. Cheers!

Permanent white foam, it’s characterised by a slightly lactic and intensely smoked aroma. The smoked taste is evident and balanced with the sweetness of the aftertaste. Bread, chocolate, toast, nuts and caramel characterise the taste of this beer.
