benfergy (46), Valley City, North Dakota, USA Mar 8, 2009 The appearance is dark brown, the aroma.... holy cats, it’s like smoked meat! (This is my first rauchbier, pardon my surprise). The flavor also is definitely dominated by the flavor of smoke. There’s a little sense of malt as well. To my surprise, this is actually a smooth beer as well. All else I have to say is that trying this beer was an interesting experience. Try it if you are adventurous or if you really like smoked foods. Juelze (889), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Mar 7, 2009 Damn this is good. Pours a rich brown color with thin offwhite head that fade quickly. Aroma is of smoked ham, bacon, and faint chocolate. Taste is oily bacon, smoked meat, light herbaceous quality, and some mild chocolate. Finishes is clean but not watery. This is a lot easier to drink the the marzen. matt7215 (943), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Mar 7, 2009 500 ml bottle shared with the KW crew. we did a side by side with this the Marzen and the Weizen and this one was my fav. reminded of an amped up version of the marzen. more malt background but still huge smoke. these guys sure no how to integrate the smoke into a brew while still leaving it true to original style. a nice smokey treat. thanks for the share Mat. JesseM (661), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Mar 7, 2009 500ml bottle shared at our 2nd KW group tasting, thanks Mat for sharing! Pours a dark burgundy with a small beige head. The aroma is almost all the smoked malts, very enticing, smoked ham, but with some good malt body under there. Flavour is basically a more intense version of this brewery’s Marzen, tons of campfire smokey goodness swirling around a very tasty, sweet and strong malt body. Very powerful and biting of the lips but not too over-powering. A very nice, filling beer! JK54B (913), Helsinki, Finland Mar 1, 2009 Last glass of the keg tasted at Olutkellari Helsinki. A fine nose of smoke. Pale beige head. Dark black reddish colour. Smoky soft slightly sweet taste. An excellent and delicious beer. GMCC2181 (848), Bear, Delaware, USA Feb 25, 2009 Bottle. Light black in color, small tan head that faded quickly. Nice nose, sugary sweetness, malty and some smokiness.Taste is nice, a little bitter up-front, campfire smoke and i can pick up on some of the oak. It does taste like smoked meat (in a good way). All the flavors are well balanced. Texture is oily and slides right off your tounge. A little thin but doesnt take away from anything. Overall a unique beer that satisfied the "smoke" I was looking for. BelgiskOlklub (397), Viby J, Denmark Feb 24, 2009 Bottle. Small creamy off-white diminishing head with good lacing. Clear sparkling dark brown body. Average malt body with aroma of bread, grain and roasted malt. Heavy aroma of smoke, leather, tar and tobacco. Medium body, oily texture and a metallic bitter finish. Well balanced moderate sweet and light bitter. Delicious. BrianDorry55 (117), Spring Hill, Florida, USA Feb 23, 2009 500ml. bottle from Trinity Liquors in Spring Hill, FL. Pours an opaque dark brown with a very thin white head. Aroma is strong smoked sausage, bacon, and campfire. Flavor is malty up front and fades to smoked meat, charcoal, and liquid smoke. Medium mouthfeel...warm/smoky aftertaste. Its pretty damn good...unlike anything else...its definately worth a try.
