Clear cola-colored with a thin head. Flavor is deep with caramel flavors that complement the smoke. More depth than most rauchbiers. Thick palate. Very enjoyable. nbutler11 (741), Phoenix, Arizona, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 5, 2009 Liquid Germany. Drank my share of this growing up, but have not had it in awhile. Pours like a nut brown from the bottle with an oatmeal colored head. Smells and tastes of meat and smoke. There are also faint traces of caramel and almond, but this beer is all about rewarding the hunter. Game on. tlind2 (560), Helsinki, Finland

Bitter smoky flavor with a long finish and hints of alcohol. Full body, medium-light carbonation. Smooth mouthfeel. A pleasant smoked beer, but definitely not sessionable. ogreface (303), Budapest, Hungary
Excellent. Better than Märzen version of Schlenkerla Rauchbier. Pure smoked ham flavour. I would say Rauchbier at best. Great! unclemattie (2401), Georgia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Dec 25, 2008 This has the highest ABV of all Schlenkerla brews. I used this one in a marinade for a huge filet of Scottish Atlantic Salmon on Christmas 2008. Very dark reddish brown hue, thick and creamy eggshell colored head. Very attractive lacing. Nice smooth aroma of smoked meats, sweet malts. Heavy smoke, big smoked malt aroma. It is not for he weak. Rich malt flavor, nice smoke on the sides of the palate. It is like drinking sweetened bacon. Bonerific. Medium bodied. Finishes with some more smoke and a balancing hop character. Prost. armando629 (965), Budapest, Hungary
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 24, 2008 Wow, what a beer! Deep colored appearance, fine and stable lacing tan head. Yes, it has a barbeque aroma with a sweet malt character, some liqueric ham perfume. The taste is complex too, around a liquid smoked ham or bacon with sweet malt and roasted malt. In the finish i can feel the touch of the wooden cask. It is very exciting beer! I hope the tradition of the smoked beers will never die!
