| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 20, 2008 Bottle. Dark brown, almost black colour with a medium off-white head. Aroma is smoked malt with notes of tar. Tastes like smoked ham with some roasted malt. Medium to full-bodied. Another delicious beer from the brewery. ChainGangGuy (2544), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 19, 2008 Appearance: Pours a dark mahogany-hued body with a small, bubbly, off-white head.
Smell: Bacon-wrapped top-shelf hot dogs smoked atop a wood fire and served with barbecued pork products. Some minor sweetness hints in back, but you gotta look past a whole grocery aisle worth of smoked meat products.
Taste: Roasted, toasted grains and yet another Schlenkerla plate of smoked meats. Charred wood. Sweet, slender maltiness underneath with a bit of creme caramel. Roasty, smoke-laden finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: Perhaps Schlenkerla has slowly worked me up the smoke scale to the point where I find this both pleasant and keenly drinkable, but, well, I find it both pleasant and keenly drinkable. bermod (118), Lappeenranta, Finland

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Oct 30, 2008 500ml. the color is tawny red brown. short lived off white head. robust smoke aroma was anticipated, but caramel malt is also noticed. just a hint of sweetness in the back. not as smokey as the marzen. excellent balance. just the right amount of biiteness to keep the sweet malt in check, smoke is present but not detracting. good stuff. jfb (413), Weihenstephan, Germany

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 28, 2008 Pours medium amber with a soft white head. Smoke carries this whole beer, the base has a soft caramel note, but plays out a bit watery under the smoke. I do really enjoy these beers, they pull of a woody dry smoke that is meaty and natural, almost cigar like at times. Overall enjoyable, but the kind of beer you have to plan for, might not pair well with everything. glennmastrange (836), hobe sound, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 27, 2008 Bottle. Moderate molasses smell for the malt, light resin and leather for the hops and yeast, strong smell of smoke, toffee, pot roast and a German deli. Head is small, creamy white, with fair lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is clear dark brown. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes moderately acidic and lightly bitter. Palate is medium, watery but almost creamy, and has a lively carbonation. The smoke puts this beer over the top, although i didin’t get a whole lot of Urbock out of it.
