COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
(First tapping every first Thursday of October) A smoked bock beer for Bamberg’s strong beer season (October through December). Matured for months in ancient rock-cellars underneath Bamberg and tapped freshly from the oakwood cask. Similar to, but much bigger than the classic Maerzen style.

Flasa. Extremne tmavo bordova farba, kremova hneda farba velmi dlho drzala. Vona velmi pekna, sladova, prazeny slad. V chuti opat sladovost, travnatost, udene tony. Pivo so strednym telom a nasytenostou. Velmi pekne vyvazene pivo, ktore ma prekvapuje kazdym duskom napitia.

Poured from bottle into snifter: Pours dark brown with a foamy tan head, no lacing. Aroma of smoked, roasted malts, maybe a little nutty but the smoke definitely dominates. Taste is mildly sweet malt flavor, a little earthy, and lots of smoke. I mean lots, but it somehow isn’t overwhelming. Medium body, nice carbonation, really peaks when it warms up a bit. This is one of the best rauchbiers I’ve ever had.

From a bottle. Quite smoky, with a strange fishy metallic note. Tasty, though.

BOTTLE 50CL. Look: clear dark red-brown, beige frothy head. Aroma: very intense, smoked, smoked prunes, black olives, rich. Taste: smoked, light sweet rich taste.

Intense brew, smokiness is nicely balanced by rich malty body, unlike in their basic Marzen.

Of all of the Schlenkerla’s, this is my favorite, closest to the "bacon" experience. Smoked malts rule in this beer, dark and nutty, lots of the cured meat, smoky taste of hickory bacon. An acquired taste for sure, but a must try.

Pure smooth smoke and bacon. This was So tasty and interesting. There was no roughness to this beer like already stated pure silky smooth smoke and bacon from start to Finnish.

Clear brick red with a massive head. Good carbonation. Aroma is bacon and wood smoke. Followed by a surprisingly crisp, light malt. It’s biscuity and bready after a heavy dose of campfire. Agitating it lets the sweetness really break out. The aroma has the same familiar elements: first the smoke, then a sweet, lagery malt, and then more smoke on the back of the tongue. Just great. The feel is smooth but not slick, substantial but not thick, dry but not ashy. I would say drink about half a bottle, or have it as a shot with my bacon and eggs.

.5L bottle into wrong glassware because you’re not doing the dishes. Nose is, "ew, this smells like a fire" per my wife. I understand how the finish may be a turn off, but over all this is pretty darn good. It’s as though a lager is screaming in desperation to get help behind locked doors. Drink only if you like smoke.
