4/16/05 500ml. San Francisco.Amber brown with minimal off white head. Ususal prominent smokey aroma. Smoother than the marzen with the bigger malt profile. Very Good.

Aroma: initially very smokey. Gives way to a blend of smoke, sulphur and malt. Appearance: dark brown with red highlights, tan head and sudsy lacing. Flavour: sweet malty, a touch of carbon, smoke shows through with some light floral notes. Palate: thick, nicely carbonated with loads of balalncing bitterness and finishes smokey.

Red-brown dark color with a very thin head. The aroma is the most amazing aspect; strong smoke and meat overpower the senses. This is my first rauchbier, so I don’t have proper perspective, but I’m very surprised to see that this beer adheres to the Reinheitgebot. The body is medium and the flavor is a subdued version of the aroma. Probably not the best session beer since the flavor and body aren’t so big, but perfect as a compliment to steak or sausage.

So this may be biased. I love smoked food, so this was very good. Sweet malt and mesquite on the nose. Spicy but smooth on the palate with lots of mesquite. Finish is strong and smokey. Very nice. Love it!

Dark brown with ruby highlights, whispy tan head, strong smoke aroma, rich malt flavor, touch of sweetness balanced by lots of smoke character, touch of earthy peat, upon warming it becomes a rich bock, slightly thin body, smoke aroma and character subsides a bit

THOUGHTS: Oh, my God, this beer smells like beef jerky. A truly unique beer. I know there are others out there, but this is my first and I am amazed. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark brownish red with an average, off-white head that mostly diminished. The aroma was moderate carmel malt and smoke. It smelled like beef jerkey and maybe some Bar-B-Q. sauce. The flavor was sweet and salty gaining a little sourness toward the average to long finish. It tasted like beef jerky and Bar-B-Q sauce some caramel and smoke. The medium body was somewhat syrupy with lively carbonation and a smokey finish.

Dark brown color with thin tan head. light lacing. Wonderful campfire aroma. smoke on the mouthfeel as well on the finish. a little to intense, it reminds me of an ashtray.
