(First tapping every first Thursday of October) A smoked bock beer for Bamberg’s strong beer season (October through December). Matured for months in ancient rock-cellars underneath Bamberg and tapped freshly from the oakwood cask. Similar to, but much bigger than the classic Maerzen style.

I tasted this beer in the original Schlenkerla pub in the Old Town of Bamberg, on a beautiful spring evening, years ago... That was one of those moments that go me into the world of craft beers. Much better and more complex than the regular Märzen. Full bodied, silky mouth feel. Beautiful caramelized malts, with a slight hoppy present in the background. Actually not as smoky as Märzen, or maybe here the overall balance with other elements is more pronounced. Awesome brew!

Bottle. Pours a dark ruby red beer with a medium sized off white creamy head on top. Aroma of peat and smoke. loads of burned malts and toasty stuff. Flavor has a big smokey sensation. bittersweet touches, some wood and an overall quite juicy mouthfeel. Very full, well balanced and very nice example of why Bamberg is kwown for their smoked beers. Long, sweet aftertaste and longlasting smokey sensation. Soft carbonation, great stuff.

This is really a pleasant pleaser. Smells like a smoked sausage. After the initial accustoming the rich flavours come to fruition. Malts, a little bitter, a little bit more sweet, some faint taste of pear. It is very drinkable, light yet packs lots of taste. Great brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy (iOs)
