(First tapping every first Thursday of October) A smoked bock beer for Bamberg’s strong beer season (October through December). Matured for months in ancient rock-cellars underneath Bamberg and tapped freshly from the oakwood cask. Similar to, but much bigger than the classic Maerzen style.

Butelka, warka do kwietnia 2015.

0,5 l bottle, best before 6/2015. Clear, very dark ruby with a huge, creamy, stable, tan head. Beauty! Very intense aroma of smoked bacon, smoked beechwood, coal and hints of licorice. The smokiness leaves not much space for other smells. The taste is unexpectedly less dominated by smoke. It is quite sweet with hints of bacon, raisins, molasses and licorice. Very good! Medium long, slightly bitter finish. Full body, creamy and slightly chewy mouthfeel, average carbonation. Another fantastic Schlenkerla beer! This one is so satisfying and everything but one-dimensional. Although one would expect this to just be relying on the smoke flavour, it is more of a typical Bock enriched with a subtle smokey taste. Brilliant!

Draught at Taphouse, Cph. Clear amber colour with a medium sized, off-white head. Sweet, smoked aroma with ham, bonfire, oak, toasted malts, rich caramel malts. Taste is sweet. Medium body with a oily texture and a fine, soft carbonation. Rather rich for a 6.5 % alcohol. Lasting, smoked finish with bacon and rich caramel malts. Excellent beer, if you´re in to the smoked stuff.

This beer pours a dark copper with a medium off white head. The aroma is mostly just wood smoke you get from a bbq and some malts but very faint. The taste is overpowered by the smoke. Some beers in this style have a faint smokey flavor, but not this one, it is strong! I don’t pick up a lot more in the taste except for maybe some dark fruits. Worth a try.

500 ml bottle into pine glass, no bottle dating. Pours slightly cloudy deep reddish brown color with a 2 finger dense and rocky light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of huge wood smoke, caramel, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, oak, light chocolate, light char, herbal, and oak/smokey earthiness. Fantastic aromas with great complexity and balance of dark/bready malt, smoke, and earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big wood smoke, caramel, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, oak, light chocolate, light char, herbal, and toast/smokey earthiness. Light herbal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of wood smoke, caramel, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, oak, light chocolate, light char, and herbal/smoke earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic complexity and balance of dark/bready malt and smoke flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Very clean on lager flavors as well with zero estery notes present. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and fairly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an absolutely incredible rauchbier style. All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, smoke, and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth to drink. A highly enjoyable offering.

From bottle. Pours a dark brownish-black hue almost like root beer with a good beige head. Some lacing. Nice smokey aroma of a meat market (ham, sausage, smoked cheese), coffee, caramel, oak. Up front taste is a smoke bomb. But Taste changes to smoked Gouda cheese, chocolate, coffee, some sweetness, tobacco and vanilla, fig. Light bitterness. Medium body with decent carbonation. Overall, pretty easy to drink. Up front it's like you just walked into a butcher shop smoking room, but has some strong character throughout! Surprisingly very complex beer. Wonder if I had this for breakfast some weekend... :). I bet you smokey the bear would be all over this beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
