(First tapping every first Thursday of October) A smoked bock beer for Bamberg’s strong beer season (October through December). Matured for months in ancient rock-cellars underneath Bamberg and tapped freshly from the oakwood cask. Similar to, but much bigger than the classic Maerzen style.

Aroma: intense bacon, smoked meats, savoury flavours. Appearance: clear, dark brown, small, creamy, beige head. Taste: medium sweet. Palate: sweets continue, salty, malty grain flavours, getting so slightly bitter and dry in the finish. Overall: very nice Smoked, Bock meets smokey bacon, maybe slightly too bitter in the finish. Pint at CASK Pub & Kitchen, Pimlico.

500 ml. bottle from Holiday Wine Cellar. Aroma of campfire smoke, smoked ham, and sweet, dark, caramel malt, very inviting and unique. The smokey flavor is a bit astringent but the sweet malt balances it out. Has a slight molasses flavor and texture, a slight raisin or plum thing going on. Medium to full body, sticky texture, soft carb., smokey finish. Very well balanced, the strong smokey flavor is blended well with the sweetness and fruitiness of the malt.

Butelka, warka do kwietnia 2015.

0,5 l bottle, best before 6/2015. Clear, very dark ruby with a huge, creamy, stable, tan head. Beauty! Very intense aroma of smoked bacon, smoked beechwood, coal and hints of licorice. The smokiness leaves not much space for other smells. The taste is unexpectedly less dominated by smoke. It is quite sweet with hints of bacon, raisins, molasses and licorice. Very good! Medium long, slightly bitter finish. Full body, creamy and slightly chewy mouthfeel, average carbonation. Another fantastic Schlenkerla beer! This one is so satisfying and everything but one-dimensional. Although one would expect this to just be relying on the smoke flavour, it is more of a typical Bock enriched with a subtle smokey taste. Brilliant!
