(First tapping every first Thursday of October) A smoked bock beer for Bamberg’s strong beer season (October through December). Matured for months in ancient rock-cellars underneath Bamberg and tapped freshly from the oakwood cask. Similar to, but much bigger than the classic Maerzen style.

Draught at Taphouse, Cph. Clear amber colour with a medium sized, off-white head. Sweet, smoked aroma with ham, bonfire, oak, toasted malts, rich caramel malts. Taste is sweet. Medium body with a oily texture and a fine, soft carbonation. Rather rich for a 6.5 % alcohol. Lasting, smoked finish with bacon and rich caramel malts. Excellent beer, if you´re in to the smoked stuff.

This beer pours a dark copper with a medium off white head. The aroma is mostly just wood smoke you get from a bbq and some malts but very faint. The taste is overpowered by the smoke. Some beers in this style have a faint smokey flavor, but not this one, it is strong! I don’t pick up a lot more in the taste except for maybe some dark fruits. Worth a try.

500 ml bottle into pine glass, no bottle dating. Pours slightly cloudy deep reddish brown color with a 2 finger dense and rocky light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of huge wood smoke, caramel, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, oak, light chocolate, light char, herbal, and oak/smokey earthiness. Fantastic aromas with great complexity and balance of dark/bready malt, smoke, and earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big wood smoke, caramel, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, oak, light chocolate, light char, herbal, and toast/smokey earthiness. Light herbal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of wood smoke, caramel, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, oak, light chocolate, light char, and herbal/smoke earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic complexity and balance of dark/bready malt and smoke flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Very clean on lager flavors as well with zero estery notes present. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and fairly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an absolutely incredible rauchbier style. All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, smoke, and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth to drink. A highly enjoyable offering.

From bottle. Pours a dark brownish-black hue almost like root beer with a good beige head. Some lacing. Nice smokey aroma of a meat market (ham, sausage, smoked cheese), coffee, caramel, oak. Up front taste is a smoke bomb. But Taste changes to smoked Gouda cheese, chocolate, coffee, some sweetness, tobacco and vanilla, fig. Light bitterness. Medium body with decent carbonation. Overall, pretty easy to drink. Up front it's like you just walked into a butcher shop smoking room, but has some strong character throughout! Surprisingly very complex beer. Wonder if I had this for breakfast some weekend... :). I bet you smokey the bear would be all over this beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

W zasadzie mo?na by powiedzie? ?e poprawny rauchbier. Jest w?dzonka, piwo tre?ciwe, wi?c jest fajnie, jednak spodziewa?em si? czego? lepszego.

In bottiglia. Aroma di legno, affumicato, caramello. Al palato corpo scorrevole e alcool ben nascosto. L’affumicatura la fa da padrona con toni di legno, tostato e carbone.

Pours dark dark brown with orange-ish highlights and thin beige foam. Aroma is fig, smoke, chocolate, coffee?, bread, toffee, a bit of vanilla and tobacco. Great! Taste is wood smoke, so much smoke, chocolate, dark dried fruits (fig, raisin?), sweetish malts, toffee, char, and lingering smoke. Light bitterness. Medium body, nice soft/full carbonation. The smoke is a bit overwhelming in the taste, but overall this is surprisingly complex.

Miedziane klarowne z obfitą, beżową pianą. Zapach to rewelacyjne, intensywne nuty wędzone - intensywnie wędzonego sera, wędlin, ogniska. W smaku treściwa, zbożowa słodycz i wędzoność, przypomina kanapkę z wiejską wędliną. Ciało spore, nasycenie niskie. Goryczka średnia. /// Pours copper clear with big, beige head. Aroma is great and intensive smoked notes - smoked cheese, meat, fireplace. Taste is pithy, grainy sweetness and smoke. Reminds sandwich with smoked meat. Body is full, carbonation is low. Average bitterness.
