(First tapping every first Thursday of October) A smoked bock beer for Bamberg’s strong beer season (October through December). Matured for months in ancient rock-cellars underneath Bamberg and tapped freshly from the oakwood cask. Similar to, but much bigger than the classic Maerzen style.

UPDATED: MAR 17, 2016 Es una cerveza con sabor ahumado. Enseguida se nota, y luego se va. Buen cuerpo y no es ligera.

UPDATED: JAN 19, 2016 0,5l bottle. Dark brown colour with long lasting tan head. Aroma: Smoked ham, wood, caramel. Taste: Like the aroma, smoked ham first, than coffee. Little sweetness, then medium bitterness. Full body with mild carbonation. Smokey, bitter finish. I’ve never tasted anything like this before, so I’m surprised a little bit but I liked it in a wierd way. Ham stock combo with a bock beer.

Bottle from Tanakaya shared with family for the holidays. Pours a deep brown with purplish shade on the edges. Stronger smoked aroma than the marzen: smoked ham and honey, charcoal, plum, oak, charred molasses, chestnuts roasting on an open fire. Slightly oily mouthfeel with average to soft carbonation. More fruit comes out as it warms giving it a holiday feel. Slightly sweet finish with more smoke.

Butelka 0,5l Kolor ciemnobrązowy, klarowny, piana niezbyt duża ale się trzyma szkła. Aromat to wędzonka, wędzonka i susz śliwkowy. W smaku wytrawne, wędzonka i trochę ziół, średnia goryczka, bardzo dobre pijalne piwo, rewelacja.

A: Deep dark with some red tone. Two finger light light brown head. N: Smoke, wood, campfire T: Smoke, tar, wet wood, hint of fruityness. O: Very smokey, but I love this style! Quite soft mouthfeel even though the heavy smokey taste. Great!

Brown color with tan head. Aroma is smokey bacon. Taste is stingy first, then an excellently balanced combination of smoke and maltiness. Rich, but not sweet. A dream of a smoked beer.

Bottle, courtesy of SinH4. Looks like Coke with a stable foam. Aroma of German winter kitchen, a bit smoky, Brussel sprouts. Very bitter, nicely smoked taste. Definitely a winter beer, heavy and oily, but also a bit rough.

Rating #1445 - 21.01.2015 - Bottle from CBI. Pours a coppery brown in colour with a minimal tan head that fades quickly. Distinct smoky aroma (smoked bacon, ham roast) from this pour. Like I’m getting the meat sweats from this beer. Very unique body, mild alcohol warmth, predominant smokiness on the palate tempered with a true, malt forward bock beer with sweet toffee notes. More body than the marzen, as well as the alcohol. A gem.
