Jun 5, 2009 I used to hate any and all smoked beers, but I’ve really grown to enjoy them. This one is dark red, a little darker than the Marzen. The flavor also has a bit more malt. Extremely smoke dominated in the aroma and flavor. Smells and tastes like a liquid campfire....but in a good way! I’m not sure which one I enjoy more though, this or the Marzen. I’ll have to try both of them again.

Jun 4, 2009 similar to the marzen version but with the maltyness of a doppelbock. lots of malts and lots of smoke flavor makes this one the better of the two.

Jun 3, 2009 Near black pour with a thin off-white head. Aroma of smoke and maybe a little malt underneath. Flavor is very smokey malt, rich. Bittersweet throughout. Still too smokey for my tastes, but better than the marzen.

Jun 3, 2009 The first thing you’ll notice is the smell of smoke. It hit me in the face and took me back to my first job at the local barbecue. It’s like stepping into the smokehouse. It pours an opaque and dark brown that my fiance mistook for Pepsi. You couldn’t be more wrong, ha ha. Every review of this beer tells me it tastes like pork, bacon, or ham and they are absolutely right! If you’ve ever had a smoked beer, you haven’t had crap until this one.

May 16, 2009 Dark brown, almost black, with a tall off-white head, lingering well. Very smokey aroma, with rich dark malts, caramel, lighter smoking than their maerzen, and a bit of sherry. Strong, rich malt flavor, well smoked but less so than their regular. Sweet, rich, well balanced, though, and very interesting. Really well done. Fabulous.

May 14, 2009 Wow, now this is a smoked beer. Strong nose and strong flavor of smoke. Smoked ham, smoked turkey, smoked sausages... Great, but I can’t drink a lot of it.

May 11, 2009 Sampled from a 16.9 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark brown color with a large dark tan head. The aroma was strong dry wood smoke. The flavor was strong hickory smoked bacon with a light bitterness and dry maltiness and a light fruity hop presence. The finish was long, woody and smoky. Too one dimensional but enjoyable.
