Poured a deep dark brown with a big foamy light brown head. Aroma is mostly smoke with some wood and ham. Flavor is, well… smoke, the heavy sweet malt base is there but the smoky roasty flavor adds a slight bitterness. This is about the smokiest beer I’ve had that I really enjoyed, as the beer warmed over time and my palate got used to the flavor the real enjoyment started. Amazing aftertaste of caramel, malt, and, of course, smoke. I’m a vegan & this beer makes me feel guilty for loving it... nate2g (1073), Brisbane, Australia

Beautiful aroma of smoked malt, meat, oak and caramel - all smoked of course. The flavour is of delicious smoked meat, caramel and whiskey. Medium bodied. Smoked finish. A fantastic smoked beer...wow! Arayaga2 (948), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 8, 2009 Pours cola brown with a nice speckled bone colored head. Aroma is undeniably smoky, like one of those rough-hide dog chews, and this carries prominently into the taste, and lingers into the finish, long after the caramel subsides. Allen (1335), Switzerland
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Jun 24, 2009 Bottled 50cl. Courtesy of joss. It pours a ruby nut brown beer with a small creamy beige head which leaves a beautiful lacework. The aroma is fantastic; exceeding my expectations which where very high. Complex, nicely smoky (very balanced and not overwhelming), with caramel, molasses, wood (beechwood and oak), bourbon, black olives, leather, black pepper and tar being most present. Hints of ginger, eucalyptus, tobacco and mint. Deeply inviting. Quite a lot of black olives in the taste which is woody, sweet, medium bodied. Low carbonation. Late bitterness. Extremely pleasant. The finish is slightly medicinal, very strong, wonderfully smoky, surprisingly dry and reminiscent of a single malt from Islay (Laphroaig 10 comes to mind) with mint, dark chocolate, paprika, tar and tarragon appearing. Absolutely fantastic! Thanks a lot joss! gringo332 (238), Richardson, Texas, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 23, 2009 Nasty aroma, but the flavor is not as intense thankfully. But I could smell it every time I sipped it so ruined it for me. bThe flavor was strong hickory smoked bacon with a light bitterness and dry maltiness and a light fruity hop presence. The finish was long, woody and smoky. Too one dimensional asedzie (453), San Francisco, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 19, 2009 Bottle. Pours deep brown. Aroma is of cured smoked meat, touches of summer bonfire. Flavor is thick and malty with mild wood, only a hint of smoke. Aftertaste has minor bitter and smoke notes. Excellent. A big bad beer. travita (1887), Frisco, Texas, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 1/5 | 17/20 | Jun 16, 2009 Clear reddish brown color and a decent white head. The smell is awesome with smoke, bbq, bacon, meat, malts, and goodness. The taste is about the same but does wane slightly from the smell.
