It’s been a while since I’ve had this one and it’s a delight. Dark and highly carbonated pour. Slammin’ powerful nose of wood and smoke. Rich, thick mouthfeel. Nicely chewy old ale notes in the flavor, with some sweet malts in there to balance. Some hints of roast and dark fruit add further complexity, and even though the smoke is dominant it’s far from one-dimensional. YUM. Palidor19 (1798), Brandon, Florida, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 7, 2009 Bottled: Intensive somked aroma, notes of bacon, dark smoked meat and smoked cheese. Some sweet malt aromas. Dark brown color, small creamy, brownish head. Flavor is light sweet, malty with grain notes. Taste as you lick a charcoaled tree limb. Black smoked meat notes. Astringent, bitter and intensive smoked. Very good balanced, few alcohol remarkable. Bitter end with smoke and roasted malt. Very pleasant smoked, give me more of this stuff. rudolf (1789), Buffalo, New York, USA

Nose is campfire, malt comes through more than their other beers. Flavor is rich bock, malt, caramel, smoke, dark fruits. Smoke is understated for the brewery. Nice! sunevdj (1789), Copenhagen OE, Denmark
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Sep 5, 2006 Pours a very dark brown with an off-white head. Lots of smoke and oak. Am I lost in the old London dockyards? Or did I rub Sweedish mosquito repellant (you know it if you know it) on my tongue? Light to medium bodied. LOTS OF SMOKE! tjthresh (1782), Greenfield, Indiana, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 12, 2005 Pours a beautifull garnet/mahagony with a creamy kahki head. Smells like my back yard when I have my smoker going. Boston Butt anybody? Sweet caramel malts are just along for the ride. It tastes like bacon or sausage. Again, the malt is just kint of hanging out, and there is some bitterness there too. Very easy to drink. If you like the smoke there is nothing offensive here. I’m packing my bags for Bamberg.
