Aroma of tar and smoke. Dark red with a small white head. Taste bitter with smoke and juniper. Long finish.

Robe rouge claire surmontée d’une mousse beige fugace et en dentelle. Arôme de bacon. Saveurs de bacon, de houblon amertume, de caramel et une pointe de chocolat. Arrière-goût en amertume.

Big smokey aroma, olives? Nice tight off white head. Raison hue. Great mouthfeel, medium bodied, hoppy bitter finish, totally encumbered by smokiness. An excellent brew, highly recommended, and definately a classic, BRAVO!

Near black pour with a thin off-white head. Aroma of smoke and maybe a little malt underneath. Flavor is very smokey malt, rich. Bittersweet throughout. Still too smokey for my tastes, but better than the marzen.

Aroma of ham on the grill from very dark brown body. Full and creamy palate stood out. Good malt and smoke flavor. Nice balance as the smoke portion doesn’t completely overwhelm as it tends to in most smoked brews. Very good smoked beer.

(500 ml bottle from http://hitimewine.com) Thick khaki head sits atop dark caramel brown body. Nice lacing. Aroma is good smoked sausage, sweet woodsmoke. The taste is mellow and smoky and good. The mouthfeel and finish are smooth. Boy this is good, just right!

Poured a dark violet/ruby with a large fluffy off-white head. Aroma of grapes, molasses, and smoked pork akin to bacon or kielbasa. The flavor starts with the sweet vinous flavor of the bock but is quickly joined by an equally potent taste of smokiness that has touches of bacon and wood in it. Finishes slightly dry with a bit more of the sweetness than the smoke. I can taste that this is a well-made beer, but I admit I’m still not sold on a beer where smoke flavor takes center stage. I like beer with smoked pork, but not in the same glass. I’d love to try this beer without the smoke (I know to some that would be heresy), because the bock flavor here is really nice.
