Deep red/brown with thin white head. Malty and smokey beer. Really quite nice. Smokey, but not overly meaty. Well rounded, sweetish malt balances the smoke. Thanks to Duff and Chris for bearing with me whilst I had this, not that Duff was complaining too much.... fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA

The nose was super smoky. Did it actually smell like Smoked Salmon, or do I just automatically associate that flavor the the pink fish. Nose of teryaki even. What a strong smoky aroma anyway. The smokiness continued into the flavor to be accompanied by some molassas and other dark malts. Very tasty stuff, but you gotta be in the right frame of mind. I liked it. The one beer thats harder for me to get than selection lambic, millenium gueuze and J&J’s. Alround rating: Its worth the wait, but hopefully its shorter next time. When you are so excited about something that you’ve wanted to try for like years its probably best not to be immencly tierd, hungover, feeling a bit sick and have a serious dry mouth, but with such a great beast this works. Smokey hamish goodness, sweet satisfying malts, all completly balanced and super drinkable. Its awsome, absolutly awsome stuff. I had a half in like 2 mins and then drank my mates for him. Get past the first sip and it will grow on you. If you love BBQ this is the beer to accompany your summer parties. However, proceed with caution. altkencru (143), USA

Crazy powerful nose, loads of malt and smoke, primarily of the smoked ham/fish variety more than the woody. Deep brown with a large, fluffy head. Very malty and smoky with a pleasant, pervasive fruity sweetness. Light grapes. Hops evident in the back of the mouth and throat at the end and into the dry aftertaste. Coating and lasting despite the lager body. Balanced and full-flavored, flavorful but relaxed, not extreme. No apparent alcohol, and the smoke retires after a while and leaves a luscious, lovely brew, well-made and free of novelty. A sumptuous, rich dessert, an absolutely delicious lip-smacker. A revelation, treuly worth the wait. Fin (3495), Merton, Oxfordshire, England

Big, big smokiness, woodiness and German sausages, If I’d have closed me eyes and sipped I reckon my first thoughts would have been liquidised Bratwurst or some similarily spicy German sausage, the flavours hang onto the roof of your mouth and it’s like Mes said there’s this feeling of sticking your head into a bonfire, it really is a smokey number but bizarrely you don’t notice it so much after a while and all you can think of is pushing the massed hoardes outta the way and asking for a refill, I had three on the Friday and another one or two on the Saturday. This was Numero Uno for me over the weekend, can’t wait for Munich now.
