Aroma is, of course, smoky, with a touch of malt sweetness. Flavor profile follows the aroma very closely, as well, with a touch of sweetness mingling with the smoked darker malt flavors. Finish is very long, and as someone else pointed out, rather ’wet’. Very smooth all the way through, and the smokiness kind of fades in the aftertaste just before a bit of hoppiness and some nice malt flavors shine through. I am again suprised at how much I like rauchbier, although I am sure to keep my exposure to it at a minimum (familiarity possibly breeding negative things; I have a similar attitude about Pink Floyd). daboskabouter (1470), Fergus, Ontario, Canada

The nose is meaty and very smokey with a light sweetness and touch of roast. The body is of course very smokey with a semisweet malty beginning. Finishes bitter. A great big smokey beer, the smokiest of the three that I’ve tried, also the most robust. Slick (1962), Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA

The aroma is distinctly smoky with campfire and bacon, and just a touch of malty sweetness behind it. The flavor has a rich, meaty flavor from all that smoke and some lightly burnt wood tones. There’s also some very subtle grassy hops and graininess in there.
