COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
(First tapping every first Thursday of October) A smoked bock beer for Bamberg’s strong beer season (October through December). Matured for months in ancient rock-cellars underneath Bamberg and tapped freshly from the oakwood cask. Similar to, but much bigger than the classic Maerzen style.

Rated at the Pewaukee Tasting II 5/5/07. Appearance - Super-clear reddish-brown, big head. Aroma – Smells like a malty beef jerky, enjoyed simultaneously with a lightly refrigerator-dehydrated landjaeger (hung smoked meat). Flavor – Gawd, even better than the aroma. Smoked beef jerky and malt, rich, with a solid hang time. Palate – medium-bodied, but seems so much larger This one was a real hit with the group!

Dark, smoky, and strong, Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Urbock is one of the purest examples of a Smoked beer in an ever-widening style. Even though I’m new to the style, I’d be surprised if this wasn’t also one of the tastiest. Pouring a deep brown, Rauchbier Urbock has a good head and smell redolent of smoked meat and savory seasonings. Flavor is both malty and meaty. Basically, this beer is a carnivore’s best friend. Salty, smoky beef and pork would be the best matches. Honestly though, I can’t think of any grilled or smoked meat that wouldn’t be fantastic with this.

Bottle. A- Smoke, woody, bacon, meat. A- Dark brown color, dark liquid, light brown head. T- Smoke, bacon, ham. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, meaty finish. O- Kind of what I was expecting. A ton of smoke and that meaty umami flavor. Like drinking a ham brine but not in a bad way. Certainly an interesting beer and not my favorite but it’s an easy beer to drink.

Dark brown color with beige head. Aroma of smoke and malt. Taste is spicy, medium sweet with a balanced smokiness.

Piana w szkle obfita, drobno i średnio pęcherzykowa, nie jest może bardzo trwała ale ładnie krążkuje. Barwa ciemno miedziana, klarowna. W aromacie oczywiście wędzonka, ogniskowo-szynkowa, połączona ze słodowością, likierem, suszonymi owocami i razowcem. W smaku lekka słodycz wigilijnego kompotu, ciemne pieczywo i silna wędzonka.

Smells like smoked ham, tastes like smoked ham, and that’s about it. Espresso notes on the palate. It makes you feel that you’ve eaten lots of smoked meat - quite stomach-filling. Interesting beer that tastes better than it sounds.

Black brown colour. Smell of a smoke, roasted malts and oak. Taste is for me unusual, namely I need almost half a bottle to get used of it. But is still strange for me with strong presence of smoked pork in aftertaste.

UPDATED: APR 7, 2015 Pours very dark copper from bottle with sizable tan head. Aroma is insane - smoked wood, meats, even greasy/bacon smell dominating all the typical compounds. Tastes great, like a greasy Oktoberfest. Fairly standard mouthfeel for the lagers with light carbonation. Overall a truly unique and unforgettable style if you haven’t had one before. Beef jerky beer!

500ml bottle. Black as night. It’s obviously a smoked. Has a distinct smoked meat taste to it. Too much smoke for me.

6.12.2014. Pours very dark brown. Malty, smoky. Goes well with ham. Liked it more than some time ago.
