COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
(First tapping every first Thursday of October) A smoked bock beer for Bamberg’s strong beer season (October through December). Matured for months in ancient rock-cellars underneath Bamberg and tapped freshly from the oakwood cask. Similar to, but much bigger than the classic Maerzen style.

Bottle. Deep meaty smoke aroma with caramel in the background. Clear cola-colored with a thin head. Flavor is deep with caramel flavors that complement the smoke. More depth than most rauchbiers. Thick palate. Very enjoyable.

This is an amazing beer! Instant aroma of wood smoke upon pour. Reminds me of a campfire just as the last embers are still ablaze. Fluffy ivory head, almost creamy like raw milk. Jet black liquid. Tons of lacing. Not quite smoked meat, but very strong and unique smoke quality. Amazing sensations. Slightly saltly upon kissing the tounge, but quickly faded. Reminds me of a porter. Zero smoke taste in my mouth. Also zero hop bitter. Creamy on the palate, just amazing. Very clean taste. Oddly - the finish reminds me of bacon (just a tad). Again, this is an amazing beer, what an experience. Wouldja - Hell Yes!!

Bottle->shaker. Murky brown with tall offwhite head. Aroma: smoke, bacon, wood, malt. Taste: smoke, wood, bacon. The quintessential rauchbier.

Jeg har lige smagt den på Die Kleiene Bierstube. Den var overraskende røget af en urbock at være. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aroma: Smoked ham. Appearance: Dark brown with ruby highlights. and a thin tan head. Flavor: Medium sweetness, smoke and (I hate to say it) touch of hotdog. Palate: Medium to full bodied, low carbonation. Overall: A classic rauchbier dressed with bock parameters.

Half-litre bottle opened on its BBD (late Apr 2013) and poured (twice) into my Westmalle chalice. You know what you are going to get from these guys, or at least you should. This was everything I expected anyway: smokey and malty, with enough body and alcohol to sit back and enjoy, which I did. Plenty of others have already pontificated long and hard about this fine brew, I agree with most of them (that scored it high and liked it).

GIJOE (127) - Monterey, California, USA - APR 28, 2013
Pours reddish brown with a moderate tan head that dissipates quickly. The nose is liquid smoke and that is weird to me. I’m not a fan of smoked beers, although I recognize that it would probably pair nicely with sausage or other meats. Flavor is reasonably balanced malty sweetness and hoppy bitterness. Medium body, soft to average carbonation. Overall, a little disappointing for me, given the high ratings, but I wouldn’t turn one down.

A pleasantly malty sweetness that pours a ruby red color. This brew sports a rich smoke aroma and smokey flavor. A good special occasion brew.

some real deal smoke beer. Color is a rusty red. Aroma is campfire with lots of dry wood. Taste takes on extra crispy bacon, even to the savory fatty part. Really a beer that any beer lover must try to understnad this special style.

16.9 oz. bottle- Pours very dark red with a one finger tan head that reduces to a blanket and some lace. Aroma is smoke, ham, sweet sticky malt. The taste is more intense than the aroma, smoky campfire and roasted pig are on the menu, very tasty. Body is medium and carbonation is medium high. Overall I really liked it, the smokiness that I crave, and love.

16.9 oz bottle. Pours a deep mahogany with a collapsing beige head. Aroma is campfire smoky, bready malt, faint dark fruit. Taste is smoky and a little sweet (cotton candy); finishes a little bitter. Mouthfeel is creamy, body and carbonation medium. Delicious. Give me more!
