3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Unfiltered tap at Bavarian Lodge’s Oktoberfest Cask & Keg fest, Oct. 1. Stouty black, stiff brown head in an 11 oz. goblet. Smell of bacon, gouda, and burnt barbecue wood. Smoked beer: you either love or you… you’re not a man. Makes you feels like you’re drinking some primordial beer found in old clay bottles in the back corner of a cave, behind the drawings of the sabre-toothed deer hunt. Don’t know what the difference is between this and the filtered, bottled version, guess just some yeast filtered out that can’t make itself felt over the big smoky malt power punch.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle shared with Dutchdrebus, Joes and Martinus @ weekly tasting. Dark brown color with a deep dark red glare coming through when held into the light, average sized tan head. Aroma is malts and heavily smoked. Taste malts, smoke, some bitterness. Average to medium body and carbonation. Quite nice imo, and I usually don’t like smoked beers at all.

Absolutely great! Dark brown and clear appearance, little tick foam. Aroma of dozens of notes: smoked cheese, bread, cooked bacon and grass. Mouth of bread, roasted malts, smoked cheese with a great bitterness cutting the previous notes in the final. Complex and very drinkable in the same time!

Great beer. It completely tastes like bacon, and smells like bbq sauce. Love it. Maybe has a too strong flavour to drink it with some food.

Let træ-agtige noter- Wauv. Indtil videre min favorit fra Aecht Schlenkerla.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Smells like smoked pork -- brings back good memories of home. Only a hint of meat in the aftertaste; smoky flavors dominate, with a touch of hops. Pleasantly effervescent. Very good.

Heavy smoke flavors dominate this beer, tastes almost like bacon. Incredible beer, not quite as good as the Eiche but certainly close.

I’ve had this take on a “smoke beer” before. I don’t remember much in the way of the nuances but I do remember enjoying it. I had it while defiling a woman’s kitchen in Fairlawn, NJ. I was attempting to rewrite the physics books and fit 20oz of tomato bits and thick cream into a pot that had no business holding half that amount. I digress… I found this beer again at the West Over Market in Arlington VA where every beer is gratuitously inflated. This didn’t stop me. When I opened it the beers froth erupted from the top and only stopped when I poured it into my glass. The initial head is impressive albeit short lived. Aroma itself is a feast, a cornucopia of rich and malty aromas. This beer is robust. Bacon, campfire smoke laced with oak and maple make this a righteous beer to sip on. It reminds me of crisp winter nights sitting next to the fire pit till 4am. Versatile beer when it comes to food pairings. Optimal pairing would be with a glazed Cornish game hen and a significant other. Thoroughly impressed with this one.

Reddish brown with a thin bubbly off white head. Very strong aroma of smoky maple bacon. Pure smoke up front, rich sweet malt, nuts and maple. Very little bitterness, almost no hop flavor. Medium body, heavier than I expected.
