3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
500 ml. bottle. It pours a dark copper color with an off white head. The aroma is intense with wood smoke and jerky. Some spices. The flavor is again, very smoky with wood and lots of effervescence. The wheat comes through in the mouthfeel which is a bit thin but frothy and crisp. The finish has more smoke, but not much else. A bit watery in the finish. Love the smoke aroma, but the mouthfeel and finish are not to my tastes.

The smokiness is somewhat restrained and well done-- obviously the trait of a classic brewery that has been doing this for many decades, if not centuries. Nonetheless, I think the smoke profile tends to overpower any more delicate notes inherent in fine German weiss beers.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cloudy deep amber, thin head full of tiny bubbles; odd smoky, wheaty aroma - reminded me of smoked mackerel, bizarrely; smoky (applewood?) flavour to the fore, over a solid, rounded wheaty base and an underlying baked orange fruitiness which develops as it warms; pleasant prickly spice in the mix too; again reminded me of smoked fish - not what I’d expect of a beer, but enjoyable nonetheless; a pleasingly complex and different wheat beer.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: OCT 18, 2013 Bottle: muddy brown, mostly opaque with translucent, copper edges. Foamy, chunky beige head; volatile and very slow to settle. Aroma has some classic Schlenkerla smoke, mild sweetness & a little meaty character. Not as potent as the others, with a slightly metallic & dusty wheat character, grainy finish. Taste is full of sweet smoked malt, more meaty than the aroma with reminders of smoked bacon & sausage. Faint woodiness with a soft, wheat backdrop. A little toasty caramel alongside the smoke & wheat in the finish, too. Gets sweeter and a little more meaty with warmth. May not be my favorite Schlenkerla, but still mighty tasty.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle bought @ bierkompass.de (if I remember correctly). Pours wooden brown with a small brownish golden head that quickly dissipates while leaving a small trace on the glass. Smell is malty, estery and smokey with sweet dark bread, banana bread, oatmeal cookies, moist wood, smoked meats, Christmas fruit cake, ash, hay, smoke, cloves, coriander, moist tobacco and hints of lemon juice and lemon zest. Taste is slightly sweet, tiny bitter, malty, slightly estery and smokey with biscuits, sweet dark bread, oatmeal cookies, banana bread, cloves, coriander, moist wood, prunes, raisins, hay, smoked meats, lapsang tea, moist tobacco and hints of lemon juice, lemon zest and ash. Mouthfeel is crisp, round, tiny tart and light to medium bodied. Finish is tiny bitter, malty and slightly estery with sweet dark bread, smoked sausages, lemon juice, moist wood, banana bread, moist tobacco, hay and hints of lemon zest. Tasty and very easy to drink...

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: OCT 7, 2013 Presentation: It was poured from a brown 1 pint 0.9oz bottle into a pint glass. The label has no freshness date but it does have the abv (5.2%) and a description of the beer on the back.
Appearance: The body has a nice copper colored body with clear reddish highlights. From the pour I got a tall, light tan head that makes some spotty and slick lacing on the glass.
Smell: Its aroma is smoky and bready. The smoke character is very similar to imitation bacon bits and this is backed up with bready and roasted maltiness.
Taste/Palate: The smoked malt is the dominant force here and it is balanced with some mild bready sweetness. Under this are some very light yeast notes and some faint herbal/mineral hops notes. The palate has a slightly slick smooth feel with a medium body and carbonation.
Notes: There is a little more balance to the Weizen compared to some of there other offerings and so it is more interesting and drinkable for my taste.

Rauchbier avec petit arome malt grillé, mais qui soutien pas trop comparaison avec la Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Märzen qui est bien meilleure. Pas mal qd meme.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Hazy Brown with a nice lasting tan head. Good amount of carbonation in this one. Light smoke aroma. Soft clean wheat taste on the palate with a light body. Finishes slightly dry. Something different than your average wheat beer.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
August 2011. From bottle. My least favorite of them all. Aromas of banana, close, spice, malt and of course smoke. While better than most weissbiers, I’m still not sold on this one.
