Schlenkerla Smokebeer Wheat is an ale with light smoky aroma. As Bavarian wheat beers, it is being brewed with a mixture of both barley malt and wheat malt. The portion of barley malt is hereby a classic Schlenkerla smokemalt, while the wheat malt remains unsmoked. Served unfiltered with its natural haziness, Schlenkerla Wheat reaches its full aroma through bottle fermentation with fine top fermenting yeast.

Opaque brown, enormous long-lasting beige head. Very visibly flocculent yeast. Smells vaguely of barbecue. Flavor spicy, vinous, smoky. Hops buried under the smoke. Medium to light body. Very good, overall, but not an everyday beer by any means.

Pours dark hazy brown with big white head. Watery texture. Smokey aroma covers the wheat. Disappointed.

Color: clear brown beer with no carbonation and small white foam. Smell: smoked malt, smoked ham. Taste: small carbonation on mouth with roasted malt and ham domination. Small water taste. Aftertaste: caramel and roasted malt.

Bottle. Pours dark brown. Hazy. Two fingers of off-white head. Aroma of ham, bacon, bread, bonfire, some clove. High carbonation. Medium body. Low bitterness. Good.

On tap at the brewery. Hazy dark brown pour with thin white head. Aroma is really fruity, apricots, peach, smoke, funny combination of wheat and smoke creates these really nice fruity aromas. Taste is smokier, more on the regular schlenkerla bacon side of things, quite tasty, a bit sweet. Palate is silky smooth, medium carbonation.

Flaska@Akkurat.

The third Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier is top-fermented, with the creamy pale beige head and cloudy mahogany colour of a Dunkelweizen but the typical aroma and taste of smoked herrings, smoldering ashes of wood and charcoal of a true Rauchbier - a "Rauchweizen", if this is to be assigned to any style at all. Interesting because the chocolatey malt sweetness and even the banana aromas of a typical Dunkelweizen show through. I do prefer the two others over this one, though.

Visually is like a Dunkelweizen. Aroma is smoked. a mixture bewteen fish and meat. Roasted malts, banana and yeast are present. Taste is smoked as well, but less intense than the aroma; again, roasted malts, banana and bread appear. Very interesting.

pours slightly hazy dark golden orange with a very nice light beige orange cap, creamy, with a nice lacing. lightly smoked and browned malts, very wheaty, grainy, but also nice fruity and nutty dry maltiness - some lagering notes, some caramel and some specialty malts, peppery, aniseed, chalk, yeast, light yet astringent woodsy notes. average carbonation - tad prickly, light body, dry lightly smoky-grassy-peppery-lighltly astringent finish.

500ml bottle poured into Schlenkerla pint! Pours a nice nutty brown with some golden highlights, with a two-finger thick head. Aromas are of roasted malts, a bit nutty, smoky (but less intense than their other offerings), and a bit citric. Taste is just a bit sweet (very low sweetness actually), and fairly acidic (this is NOT a sour ale of course, maybe just a bit more acidic than I would?ve expected). Maybe the age of the brew has something to do with this, then again other reviewers perceived this. EDIT: acidity becomes more subdued as the brew warms up a bit. Body is medium, texture slick on the thin side, and carbo is average. Overall, I can?t complain...just another wonderful offering from Schlenkerla! It?s a bit different from their other brews but very enjoyable still. I should?ve brought back another one with me from the US...!
