COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Schlenkerla Smokebeer Wheat is an ale with light smoky aroma. As Bavarian wheat beers, it is being brewed with a mixture of both barley malt and wheat malt. The portion of barley malt is hereby a classic Schlenkerla smokemalt, while the wheat malt remains unsmoked. Served unfiltered with its natural haziness, Schlenkerla Wheat reaches its full aroma through bottle fermentation with fine top fermenting yeast.

Bottle. Dark amber muddy color with a huge off-white head. Mild smoky aroma initially apparent and banana wheat flavours are hidden subtly underneath that. Slightly sweet Flavor is smoky and salty with only a hint of bitterness.

50 cL bottle. Pours hazy to murky brown with a huge, creamy and tan head. Smoked tar and rubber aroma, bonfire notes too. Flavour is solid smoked. Light tarish note and somewhat rubber like towards leathery. Ends dry and with a mild wheat eastery note. The wheat does provide a light ester note and creamy feel throughout, but obviously is this beer dominated by the smoke.

The aroma is of tar and rope - much like the Märzen. The color is amber and it has a beutiful head. The flavor is lovely of smoke, tar, rope, and malt. A very nice beer.

UPDATED: OCT 14, 2005 (Bottle 50 cl) This must be unique. I’ve never heard of another smoked Weizen - I guess I just have to go to Bavaria soon. Dark mahogany color, slightly hazy with a light, beige head. The smoked flavor isn’t that evident to begin with, but gains as the beer heats up. The wheat isn’t particularly distinct; it’s hidden behind the smoke. But it’s definitely unique. 070904

Bottled. Hazy yellowish brown colour with beige huge head. Weak smoky aroma ith hints of malt. Smooth tar flavour with malty hints. Semisweet aftertaste of wheat and tar. Not as "smokish" as the Märzen version, but I liked this one better.

Dark reddish brown and hazy. Estery, smokey aroma. Well drinkable with nice wheat and banana flavour. A balanced and unusual beer.

Muddy brown color with generous creamy head. The classic smoke aroma of Aecht Schlenkerla here has some spicy note, and some firewood (ashes). Smooth and dry mouthfeel; personally I think that the wheat (spicy and lacking of barley backbone) works less well with the smoke; the bitterness is relatively low; the final is a bit more empty than desired.
Good, but there is no reason to get this one if you can get a Märzen.

Cloudy brown color, with a generous, light beige head. Strong aroma of smoke, the most classic Schlenkerla, first dry of woodfire, then fatty of Schwarzwäld Schinken; finally, looking for it, some timid banana comes to the surface too. The body is lean and the mouthfeel quite dry; the wheat flavor (with light banana esters) is a less joyful player for the smoke than the regular toasted malt is; there is a moderate roastiness too; the final is less smokey and more analog to a regular Dunkelweizen, and a bit weak.
Good but without the excitement of the best Schelnkerla beers.

Cloudy amber color; creamy head. Evident smokey aroma and flavor, anyway it lets some Weizen character appear; some sweetness. The smokey touch is enjoyable, but the body a bit thin.

Bottle. Large head with good duration. Color is hazy amber. Aroma is smoked bacon. Flavor is smoke and wheat. Thick bodied yet a bit watery as well.
