COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Schlenkerla Smokebeer Wheat is an ale with light smoky aroma. As Bavarian wheat beers, it is being brewed with a mixture of both barley malt and wheat malt. The portion of barley malt is hereby a classic Schlenkerla smokemalt, while the wheat malt remains unsmoked. Served unfiltered with its natural haziness, Schlenkerla Wheat reaches its full aroma through bottle fermentation with fine top fermenting yeast.

Some beers are acquired taste and I find this one is up there. Aromas of smoke, smoke and more smoke. A bit too much and can’t see myself trying it again.

Ambrée voilee, belle carbo, petit collet fuyant.

500ml bottle poured in a Pilsen glass. A: Pours a Dark and cloudy amber-brown colour; an immense yellow to beige head is formed. Very bubbled, lots of carbonation. Retention is high helped by the long glass and many lacings are left S: Very smokey with a strong wheat backbone. Roasted malts and yeasts T: Taste is strong on smoked and roasted malts. Some traces of banana as a regular Weissbier. The blend of smoked malts, yeasts and roasted malts bitterness is definitely balanced M: Smooth body and, at the same time, light and easy drinking. Considerable carbonation. Smoked aftertaste O: Extremely easy to drink. Highly recommended beer [ BA Review @ 1/7/2012 ]

0.5L tap. Pours hazy orange-brown with a frothy tan head Aroma is mild smoke, but mostly clove and yeast. Flavor is mild sweet, with citrusy yeast and mild smoke flavor coming through. Medium body with a creamy mouthfeel and mild carbonation. Overall, not as smokey as I was expecting, but a nice addition to the flavor profile of a weizen.

UPDATED: OCT 31, 2014 Wiederholungstest: Flasche vom Markgrafen-Getränkemarkt in Bamberg, MHD: 1/2015.
