Smoked beef aroma. This is a full-bodied beer with a medium-full head. The flavor is that of a smoked beef stick, with a yeasty base.

...bottle from Purvis. Well, I can’t say I liked this at all. I love weizens, wit’s and hefes, but this is not something I enjoyed. It was just too overpowering on the meat and smoke, but I suppose it is supposed to be like that, and done well for the style according to the other ratings. Maybe I got a bad one or something, but it just didn’t go well with the normally sweet weizen I love so much. On the nose was intense smoke, charcoal, and more smoke. It poured a cloudy, weird orangeish brown with a decent size tannish head that lasted, with good lacing. Body was medium, oily with flavors of smoke, salt, bacon and more smoke. I could not find any wheat or the normal wizen flavors, the pork just dominated. Finish was oily with shitloads of aftertaste from the meat and smoke. I would like to try this with a steak one day, but would have to find it somewhere else because I refuse to pay $9 for it from the overpriced Purvis bastards.

bottle. Pours a beautiful deep dark amber, loads of active carbonation contributes to a big off white head that sticks around like crazy. Aromas get interesting... smoked peat and burnt wood sit on top of faint yeast and wheat grain notes. Flavor balances out in an odd way... the smoke in the nose gives way to a deeper woody tartness, light notes of liquid smoke, and some smooth sweet toasted wheat. Some light bitterness blends superbly with the smoky tartness. Palate is a tad on the sharp site, with a little too much carbonation. Overall- a very good representation of a very unique and interesting style. Not something I’d drink on a regular basis, but quite good. And quite possibly the best thing on the planet to pair with a heaping plate of baby back ribs.

Bottle. Great looking beer. Hazy brown with a large fluffy head. Strong smoked aroma. Flavor is smokey wheat and yeast. Slightly tangy finish. Not as much flavor as the Marzen, but another fine smoked beer.

This beer approaches near perfection for me. First, the appearance is absolutely perfect. A fluffy cloud of billowy foam shrowds a clear caramel brew with a moderate carbonation. The flavor is a lightly smoked malt beverage with a slightly sweet caramel wheat flavor. The smokiness is excellent and does nothing but add to the beer’s unique unusual taste. The flavor dances and teases the taste buds as they have never really experience the true deception inspired by the brewmaster. I may be a minority with this brew, but I would put this amongst my favorites of all time.

0,5 l bottle - shared with Asgeir and Sølve. Hazy brown color, big off-white color. Aroma is off course smoked, with some sweetness. Flavor is smoked and sweet. You can feel the wheat, and it makes this a less interesting beer than the Märzen (also available at Vinmonopolet in Norway).
