COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Schlenkerla Smokebeer Wheat is an ale with light smoky aroma. As Bavarian wheat beers, it is being brewed with a mixture of both barley malt and wheat malt. The portion of barley malt is hereby a classic Schlenkerla smokemalt, while the wheat malt remains unsmoked. Served unfiltered with its natural haziness, Schlenkerla Wheat reaches its full aroma through bottle fermentation with fine top fermenting yeast.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 1 pint 0.9oz bottle into a pint glass. The label has no freshness date but it does have the abv (5.2%) and a description of the beer on the back. Appearance: The body has a nice copper colored body with clear reddish highlights. From the pour I got a tall, light tan head that makes some spotty and slick lacing on the glass. Smell: Its aroma is smoky and bready. The smoke character is very similar to imitation bacon bits and this is backed up with bready and roasted maltiness. Taste/Palate: The smoked malt is the dominant force here and it is balanced with some mild bready sweetness. Under this are some very light yeast notes and some faint herbal/mineral hops notes. The palate has a slightly slick smooth feel with a medium body and carbonation. Notes: There is a little more balance to the Weizen compared to some of there other offerings and so it is more interesting and drinkable for my taste.

500 ml. bottle @ home. Procured from Dranken Geers. BBF 03/2015. Small GUSHER. Resulting in a first glass that was almost entirely just foam. Very dark amber, brown, slightly off-white huge head. Wonderful lacing. Nose is huge delicious Schlenkerla smoke, huge amounts of thick umami smoke, smoked wood,…. Incredible. Taste is banana upfront, leading into sweetish meaty smoke, Black Forest ham, German yeast, branches, Schlenkerla smoke, interesting mix of very sweet banana & smoke, cooked brown apples, lots of smoke & lots of caramel, faint fish guts, brown sugar. Caramel body. Drinks like water. Not sure if it entirely blends both characteristics but it is a highly unique and delicious offering all the same.

Érdekes módon nekem ez jobban ízlik mint a marzen, nem annyira hívalkodóan búvik elő a szalonnazsír.

0,5 l bottle from bierpost, best before 1/2015, highly anticipated. Very hazy, dark reddish brown with a fluffy, stable, off-white head. There are much more good-looking beers than this. Heavy smokey aroma dominated by beechwood with hints of caramel but no signs of the typical wheat beer aromas. Really like it. The taste is still much dominated by the smoke but some sourish, fruity notes of cherry come through. The finish is just slightly bitter with a subtle metallic note. A slightly alcoholic touch is left, too. Although far away from a normal Dunkelweizen, the taste is very pleasant. Creamy and smooth mouthfeel, medium to full body, soft carbonation. At first, I was a bit disappointed but as the beer warmed up a little, it was just awesome and I highly enjoyed it. Want to drink it again!

A découvrir.

Big rich smoke aroma and a bit of malt with no obvious wheat notes in the nose until the orangey brown head clears at which point there is some detectable sulphur. The mouthfeel is particularly distinctive from the marzen, or even the doppelbock, having a thick, mouth-filling texture and the wheat lends a unique flavour of very mild medical, although I find this quite favourable, though I expect many would perhaps not enjoy. A really nice beer served very slightly chilled.

the aroma is caramel and smokey with some hints of vanilla and toffee... the taste is rough, smoked, bitter with some fruity sourness... dry, spicy and smokey aftertaste...

500mL bottle, pours a deep dark amber with a medium beige head. Nose brings out lovely smoke notes in only the manner that Aecht Schlenkerla is known for. Flavour brings out the classic smoke notes that dominate the palate, with dry bready malt underneath. Would never guess this was a weizen underneath. Very nice stuff, though not my favourite of the main Aecht beers.

Aromat dobrej, wędzonej szynki. Barwa miedziana, klarowne. Na dnie butelki lekki osad. Piana średnio pęcherzykowa, wysoka i długa. W smaku głównie szynka wędzona, oprócz tego minimalne nuty kwaskowe, typowe dla piw typu weizen. Goryczka niska. Niezłe dymione piwo, choć dymioność zbyt mało różnorodna i zbyt mocno przyćmiewająca pszeniczną bazę piwa.

I was expecting this to be a bit cloudier and maybe lighter - it is crystal clear, deep amber with a weak sea foam head that fades to a featureless surface rather quickly. Aroma is a light yet rich hardwood smokiness; however, the aroma is definitely distinct from that of the other Schlenkerla beers in that there is an equally present note of wheat grain/tartness. Honestly, it is less pleasant than the full smoked experience. Also, it does not smell like a weizen ale yeast was used- there is no banana (Isoamyl Acetate) and maybe only a hint of clove. A dust odor resides beneath. Body is medium-light, on the watery side, but a bit oily. Carbonation is moderate with some burn. Flavor is somewhat dry, yet slightly smoky, but not a sweet smokiness you may be used to, but more of a watery/dry smokiness, grain, dust, and spicy herb. Some mineral notes. Very little bitterness or texture in the finish - goes out clean. As it warms, you get some pleasing smokiness on the exhale. Less than exhilarating, despite the smoke. Needs more yeast to capitalize on its weizenishness, or more malt caramel to capitalize on its smokiness.
