Schlenkerla Smokebeer Wheat is an ale with light smoky aroma. As Bavarian wheat beers, it is being brewed with a mixture of both barley malt and wheat malt. The portion of barley malt is hereby a classic Schlenkerla smokemalt, while the wheat malt remains unsmoked. Served unfiltered with its natural haziness, Schlenkerla Wheat reaches its full aroma through bottle fermentation with fine top fermenting yeast.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 1 pint 0.9oz bottle into a pint glass. The label has no freshness date but it does have the abv (5.2%) and a description of the beer on the back. Appearance: The body has a nice copper colored body with clear reddish highlights. From the pour I got a tall, light tan head that makes some spotty and slick lacing on the glass. Smell: Its aroma is smoky and bready. The smoke character is very similar to imitation bacon bits and this is backed up with bready and roasted maltiness. Taste/Palate: The smoked malt is the dominant force here and it is balanced with some mild bready sweetness. Under this are some very light yeast notes and some faint herbal/mineral hops notes. The palate has a slightly slick smooth feel with a medium body and carbonation. Notes: There is a little more balance to the Weizen compared to some of there other offerings and so it is more interesting and drinkable for my taste.

Bottle. Nose is light smoke, sweet banana, cheese, hints of bubblegum; it’s very disjointed. Taste is less smokey then the nose; light smoke (relative to other Heller beers at least) leading to a very pronounced banana, and banana and cream, bubblegum and cloves taste slight sour. There is a very pleasant bonfire night aftertaste. The mouth feel is weizen thick. I don’t love this is as much as the dopplebock, primarily because that is a more balanced beer, but this is nice and more than a novelty.

Bottle from the lcbo. Murky brown pour, with a big off white head. Aroma is obviously smoky. Sausages, bacon and campfire are up front with the slightest hint of bananaish wheat Aroma. The smoke just dominates, it’s not horrible, but the base Hefe is very hard to find.

Hatalmas, tartós hab, barna szín. Illata intenzíven füstös, ami minden mást elnyom. Szánkba robbanó, erőteljes füstös ízzel indít, ami mellé rögtön felzárkózik a maláták aromája.

Pours a hazy golden brown from the bottle with bubbly off-white head that dissipates to leave moderate lace. Aroma of big smoky meat, ham and campfire, with a hint of German wheat. Taste follows, huge smoky meat, a hint of funk. Solid for a smoked beer.

Kolor wody z kałuży, niczym bardzo ciemny dunkelweizen. Aromat przejrzałych bananów, dość subtelna oscypkowa wędzonka. Lekki karmel. W smaku kwaskowate, ale jest też sporo ciała, jak na weizena. Budzi silne skojarzenia w weizenbockiem. Długi posmak. Spoko, ale nie porwało mnie.

Bottle. A- Ham, subtle smoke. A- Dark brown color, murky liquid, tan head. T- Ham brine, subtle smoke, wheat. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, smooth finish. O- Not near as smokey as some of the other Rauchbiers I’ve had from them but still tasty. Subtle on the smoke and umami, overall, but there is a nice ham brine that lingers throughout.
