COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Schlenkerla Smokebeer Wheat is an ale with light smoky aroma. As Bavarian wheat beers, it is being brewed with a mixture of both barley malt and wheat malt. The portion of barley malt is hereby a classic Schlenkerla smokemalt, while the wheat malt remains unsmoked. Served unfiltered with its natural haziness, Schlenkerla Wheat reaches its full aroma through bottle fermentation with fine top fermenting yeast.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 1 pint 0.9oz bottle into a pint glass. The label has no freshness date but it does have the abv (5.2%) and a description of the beer on the back. Appearance: The body has a nice copper colored body with clear reddish highlights. From the pour I got a tall, light tan head that makes some spotty and slick lacing on the glass. Smell: Its aroma is smoky and bready. The smoke character is very similar to imitation bacon bits and this is backed up with bready and roasted maltiness. Taste/Palate: The smoked malt is the dominant force here and it is balanced with some mild bready sweetness. Under this are some very light yeast notes and some faint herbal/mineral hops notes. The palate has a slightly slick smooth feel with a medium body and carbonation. Notes: There is a little more balance to the Weizen compared to some of there other offerings and so it is more interesting and drinkable for my taste.

Bottle, courtesy of SinH4. Smoked bacon aroma, but not as intense as others. Has that clear weizen texture without the yeast-forwardness. Meaty throughout. Full-bodied, a bit oily. Nice.

50cl bottle. Pours hazy dark amber with a beautiful thick off white sticky head. Aroma is light sweet malts, grain, wood smoke. Taste has the smoked note less pronounced with a good balance with the refreshing weizen flavor (banana, spices) that comes out in the finish along with the smoke again. Light body, medium carbonation. Surprisingly good.

Pours a clear iced tea brown with a thin white ring. Nice smoky aroma. Descent smoked flavors with a somewhat tangy finish. OK but not as good as the other styles.

on tap @ Schlenkerla / Bamberg Germany --- Nearly opaque amber brown color, smooth white head that drops to 1/2", splotches of lace. Taste is clear malt that has medium fizz, spice (especially coriander), then after the swallow, a hint of hops followed by light smoke that slowly strengthens as everything else fades. Surprisingly solid, awfully big and filling, but it is effective. I could drink it again.

0.5 l bottle @ Green Sheep Bar. Hazy, deep amber color. Its aroma and taste is a fine mix of weizen and smoked characteristics. A bit thin on body and has a short finish. Otherwise it’s fine.

UPDATED: JUN 14, 2016 From a 500ml bottle on 12/6/2016. Pours a deep amber with a small head. Smells like smoky bacon with a bit of basement. Not surprisingly, the smoke dominates against some faint wheat notes. A bacon and fire ash beer with a wheat beer finish! Medium body and moderate carbonation. Very interesting and more than pleasant (unless you hate smoked beers), but not in the same class as the Doppelbock for mine.

Bottle @ Grayston Unity, Halifax. Hazy mid-brown coloured ale with a small head. Gently smoked in both aroma and taste, this is still the dominant feature of the beer and it’s very tasty for it. Ham is evident, it has a fairly easy-drinking texture for its strength, and there’s a few dark malts evident too.

Muddy brown color with foam layer. The nose combines banana and smoke. Banana taste with a mild little carbonation and a smokey finish. Mild and light smokey aftertaste.

Appearance- hazy rich chestnut brown with quickly disappearing almond foam, aromas- smoked meats, woody, also fruity, maybe syrupy figs and raisins. Palate- medium bodied but light on the tongue, smooth finish. Taste- subtle banana, malt, smokey cured meats, quite a salty taste. Overall- slightly lacking in body compared to other smokey beers I’ve tried but still highly enjoyable and lighter.
