3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
500ml bottle. Pours a hazy red-brown with a sizeable head that seems to last forever. Some faint herb notes mingle with strong smoked bacon and Lapsang Souchong tea on the nose. It is smooth and sweet to begin, with a hint of banana coming in, before being replaced by a potent mix of spicy bitterness and slightly harsh smoke. There is a hint of the typical sweet weizen finish, but made a bit less sweet and a bit more complex by the strong smoke. The aftertaste is an unusual mix of weizen banana and smoke. Interesting, and quite good.

Brown color with a creamy off-white head, good lasting and nice lacework. Aroma has notes of wood, light wheat and toasted malts. Flavor is toasty, slightly sweet, some yeasty notes and wooden traces. Slightly bittery in the final with wooden hints on palata with good duration.

0,5l fles gedeeld met Nikos. Geur rookvlees, beetje verbrand hout.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: MAR 1, 2015 The pour is dark, hazy, slightly yellowish, colored like the fur of a Kodiak bear. Gorgeous and indicative of the immense depth of the beer. The smell is candied nuts, clove, a hint of banana, bacon bits, smoked sausage, and malted barley. It speaks of a beer that is as refreshing in the summer as it is interesting in the colder months. The mouthfeel is creamy, with a medium to thin body that dissipates into tiny bubbles with the touch of the tongue but isn’t overly effervescent. The taste is slightly bitter from the smoke and hops, lightly umami, with delicate, sweet, estery spices rounding it out. Beautiful and versatile.

500 ml. bottle @ home. Procured from Dranken Geers. BBF 03/2015. Small GUSHER. Resulting in a first glass that was almost entirely just foam. Very dark amber, brown, slightly off-white huge head. Wonderful lacing. Nose is huge delicious Schlenkerla smoke, huge amounts of thick umami smoke, smoked wood,…. Incredible. Taste is banana upfront, leading into sweetish meaty smoke, Black Forest ham, German yeast, branches, Schlenkerla smoke, interesting mix of very sweet banana & smoke, cooked brown apples, lots of smoke & lots of caramel, faint fish guts, brown sugar. Caramel body. Drinks like water. Not sure if it entirely blends both characteristics but it is a highly unique and delicious offering all the same.
