COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Schlenkerla Smokebeer Wheat is an ale with light smoky aroma. As Bavarian wheat beers, it is being brewed with a mixture of both barley malt and wheat malt. The portion of barley malt is hereby a classic Schlenkerla smokemalt, while the wheat malt remains unsmoked. Served unfiltered with its natural haziness, Schlenkerla Wheat reaches its full aroma through bottle fermentation with fine top fermenting yeast.

500ml bottle. Pours a hazy red-brown with a sizeable head that seems to last forever. Some faint herb notes mingle with strong smoked bacon and Lapsang Souchong tea on the nose. It is smooth and sweet to begin, with a hint of banana coming in, before being replaced by a potent mix of spicy bitterness and slightly harsh smoke. There is a hint of the typical sweet weizen finish, but made a bit less sweet and a bit more complex by the strong smoke. The aftertaste is an unusual mix of weizen banana and smoke. Interesting, and quite good.

pours slightly hazy dark golden orange with a very nice light beige orange cap, creamy, with a nice lacing. lightly smoked and browned malts, very wheaty, grainy, but also nice fruity and nutty dry maltiness - some lagering notes, some caramel and some specialty malts, peppery, aniseed, chalk, yeast, light yet astringent woodsy notes. average carbonation - tad prickly, light body, dry lightly smoky-grassy-peppery-lighltly astringent finish.

500ml bottle poured into Schlenkerla pint! Pours a nice nutty brown with some golden highlights, with a two-finger thick head. Aromas are of roasted malts, a bit nutty, smoky (but less intense than their other offerings), and a bit citric. Taste is just a bit sweet (very low sweetness actually), and fairly acidic (this is NOT a sour ale of course, maybe just a bit more acidic than I would?ve expected). Maybe the age of the brew has something to do with this, then again other reviewers perceived this. EDIT: acidity becomes more subdued as the brew warms up a bit. Body is medium, texture slick on the thin side, and carbo is average. Overall, I can?t complain...just another wonderful offering from Schlenkerla! It?s a bit different from their other brews but very enjoyable still. I should?ve brought back another one with me from the US...!

Bottle from Secret Santa 2014. Medium carbonation. Dark nut brown colour, creamy beige foam. Aroma of light roasted malts, light notes of citrus. Smoky taste. Refreshing and well balanced. Good beer.

Pours a hazy dark brown color, topped with average just slightly off color head. There is a strong smoke aroma, more like smoked cheese actually. The tase is smokey and slightly bittery. Not my favourite.

Sample at Julios (from bottle). Another interesting smoked beer from Heller. This one comes off as more subtle than their others though still a very distinct smokiness.

Smell is medium smoked, pours with a lot of head, pours dark brown. Taste is sour with a mild lasting smoked afteryaste. A good beer, nothing special

Poured from bottle. Definite smoke on the nose, hard to pull out any of the classic weissbier banana/clove notes. Pours a hazy brown, similar to a dunkelweizen. Taste immediate strong smoke flavor with some subdued banana/clove, medium to light mouthfeel, with slightly tartness and smoke on the finish. Only my 3rd smoked beer and by far the best.

Reddish brown, thick head. Very smoky, but no so much as the märzen, meat smoke, some licorice. Mouthfeel is light and slightly creamy, taste is smokienss, licorice, weak roastiness and a bit of rye feel to it.
