24.04.2012. On tap at Henriks, Bergen. Dark brown colour with tan head. Very rich aroma with alcohol, dark malts and sweetness. Flavours of malts with a rich body. Very sweet with moderate bitterness. Sticky oily mouthfeel with a lasting sweet aftertaste. Good beer.

Tap. Light brown. Somewhat dirty looking. Tall offwhite head that collapses. Aroma is sweet malt and caramel. Some toffee. A lot of carbonation. Taste is more malty sweetness, caramel, toffee and some alcohol. Not a favourite, but ok for a dobbelbock. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap @ Cardinal. Deep brown in color. Great thick head which gives a beautiful lacing in the glass. Great aroma. Toffee, caramell and dark candi sugar present. Warming alcohol, but not too much. Great balance. Nice lingering aftertaste. Very good beer for the cold season!

From tap @Amundsen, Oslo. Dark brown with mahogny highlights. Dense, medium-sized sand-colored head. Smell of sweetish, strongly carmelized malts and dried yellow fruits. Medium malt body. Sweetish, with burnt, peppery caramel. A light minty bitterness underneath. Some fruit tones, too. Smooth-ish in the mouth. Mid-bodied. Alcohol warmth in the ending. An exciting and likeable interpretation of a Doppelbock.

Rich, malty, caramel sweetness. Very rich. A warming beer for the cold season. Lovely glowing red. True to type, but a bit too sweet for me.

On tap @ Patricks. Tasted side by side with the Nøgne Ø version. Dark brown body with a small beige head, less darker than NØ. Aroma of sweet malt, coffee and dry fruit. Smells similar to the NØ versjon but slightly stronger with more fruit and no tobacco. Flavor is sweet malt but with less hops than NØ e.g. more hop aroma and less hop bitterness. Full body and long aftertaste. Feels a bit lighter than the NØ version still very nice. Easier to drink but less malt flavor. Somehow this one is closer to a shwartzbier and NØ is closer to a barley wine to explain the difference.

I had a taster of this on tap at Amundsen just after I had finished the NØ version. This one is not as dark in body colour as the one from NØ. Has got a low, beige head leaving fragile lacing at the glassware. Semi-sweet, malty nose. Dark caramel, anise and notes of dried fruits to the taste buds. Lingering spiced bitter ending. Foamy in the mouth. Pleasing stuff (Oslo, 26.09.2011).

Draught @ Patricks Pub og Restaurant, Kristiansand
Pours dark brown with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, caramel, chocolate and licorice. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.
