3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 hayduke (2963) - Eureka, California, USA - MAY 20, 2013
Shared with Strykzone on Facebook Chat. Poued dark brown with big light tan head. Lots of carbonation. Nose of caramel malts with spices, with orange zest, and cardamon. Cinnamon too. Medium body . Smooth mouthfeel. Flavor is spicy and complex but it hangs together well. Some fruit and there is chocolate in the finish, and in fact lots of it. Overall a very tasty beer.

Bottle from Hayduke. We had it together via facebook chat. I rolled this before opening and there was plenty of sediment on the bottom of the bottle. An aroma of spices that is very nice. Caramel, yeast, fruit. It is kind of a dunkel but with spices. I taste caramel, raisins, orange zest, cardamon, cinnamon, yeast. Sweetness is fairly big and alcohol is a bit obtrusive. As the beer warmed it became more sour and chemical tasting. That was unfortunate after a strong start. Near the finish the feel became powdery and chocolate was tasted. This was complex and interesting and it kept bringing different flavors with temperature changes.

Roasted malt caramel cocoa bitter sweet light spicy flavor with a touch of citrus. Low carbonation. Long spicy and light bitter finish. Lovely. Alcohol level seems just right. 3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 Ernest (5646) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - DEC 29, 2012
Bottle.
Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly lasting.
Body is cloudy dark amber.
Aroma is lightly malty (cookie), with notes of eucalyptus, juniper, rosemary, Listerine, etc.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter.
Medium body, creamy texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic.
Rather off-putting medicinal nose...too much spice and not enough beer. Slightly better in the mouth, where it’s fairly balanced and creamy.
