From bottle at Kontoret, Bergen. Deep ruby red with a big, creamy tan head. Rich, complex fruity aromas. Hints of spices, raisins and plum pudding. A good English old ale that adds complexity to the Norwegian Christmas beer scene.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 OleR (4247) - Oslo, NORWAY - DEC 12, 2008
UPDATED: NOV 27, 2009 500 ml bottle at Olympen, Oslo. One-finger fully lasting beige head. Translucent, mahogny colored body. Initial aroma of sourish dark bread. Followed by dark fruits, plum marmelade, chocolate and Christmas spices. Also some yeast notes and a whiff of marzipan. Flavorfull. Sourish-sweet, toasted dark malts and dark dried fruit with an acidulous twist. A fine bitterness is lurking under. Medium to full body. A complex ending with malts, dark fruits, spices and a gentle bitterness. Really nice stuff.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Sigmund (4162) - Tau, NORWAY - NOV 18, 2008
500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Cloudy very dark brown colour, big to moderate creamy tan head. Nice aroma of malts, Christmas spices, brown sugar and some fruit. The flavour is malty sweet and rich with moderate notes of spices, dark dried fruits and brown sugar. There is a subtle acidity to balance the sweetness, but the hops are moderate. This is a very nice Yule/Christmas beer, will go better with fruit cake than the traditional Scandinavian Christmas dinner.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 lusikka (4039) - Tampere, FINLAND - NOV 23, 2010
500 ml bottle.
Pours a hazy, dark reddish brown colour with a thick, lacy, beigeish head. Aroma of juniper, pine needles, some hops and toffee. Flavour of grassy hops, plums, banana, yeast, raisins, wood and caramel malts. Very complex flavour for an English Strong Ale. Medium bodied with a warming, lingering bitter hoppy finish. This is actually a little Sahti-like without too much alcohol.

50 cl bottle @ Kangasala Beer Festival. Rated on 26.11.2010
Aroma is sweetish with berries, some brown sugar and ripe fruits. Flavour has berries typical to danish ales, some sweet malt, caramel and hints of ripe fruits. Closer to a Belgian Strong than English.

500 ml bottle. Amber body with a huge beige head. Quite weak aroma of malt with a hint of caramel. Flavor is citric fruity and light malty with some spices and a slightly annoying acidity. Medium body, relatively light, fruity with spices and acidity out of balance. Not my favorite flavor.

Pours hazy mahogany into a snifter. White head with little retention recedes to skim surface. Toffee and orange zest aromas. Thin with upfront juniper turning to bitter roots in the lasting finish
