COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Pours brown, with a hint of red. Light, off-white head. Malty nose, with lots of smoke, bacon, coal and also a hint of an unpleasant smell I just can’t place. Not that bad though. Smoky aroma, with bacon, lots of malt and chocolate. Quite thick mouth feel. Sweet, with lots of bitter aftertaste. Good.

From keg @Håndverkerstuene, Oslo. Low creamy beige head. Body is near brilliant, ruby brown. Clean, well prononced malt aroma. Rounded caramel notes, hints of dark dried fruits, pepper and earthy hops. Clean, medium full malt body, with a light and refined sweetness. Faint berry notes. Subtle bitterness. Soft mouthfeel. Rounded malt finish. Not as malt-accented as expected for a Scotch Ale. Nevertheless, a well crafted and tasty beer.

Small beige head. Clear deep red body. Deep dried fruit and earth aroma with spicy chocolatey notes. Dry-sweet roasty dried fruit taste with cinnamon and herbal notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, smooth mouthfeel. Dry, and faintly acidic, earthy roasty aftertaste with spicy chocolatey wooden notes. Really nice. Full of flavour, highly drinkable, and very balanced and harmonic. (0.3l draft at Håndverkerstuene, Oslo.)

On tap at Håndverkerstuene. It poured a dark red, almost amber colour with a big creamy head. Aroma is malts, caramel and toffee. Some butterscotch as well. Sweet. Flavour is also sweet, but with a hint of bitterness. Notes of malts, caramel and toffee of course. Hops are present, but the disappear fast.

UPDATED: JUN 2, 2012 On tap at Håndverkerstuene, Oslo. Gorgeous-looking dark amber colour, with an inch-thick sticky offwhite head that leaves lots of lacing. Classic ’dusty cellar’ scotch ale aroma on a semisweet fruity background, with caramel and citrus. Excellent balance. Medium/full body, slick mouthfeel, soft carbonation. A staggeringly well-made brew [Ar 7, Ap 5, T 8, P 4, O 16]. Bottle (50cl) from Vinmonopolet (Vika), Oslo. Still good-looking and well-made with a very smooth mouthfeel, but the typical Scotch dusty/cellar characteristics in the tap version is more or less replaced by smoke and xmas-like spices in the bottle version, hence lowered rating [Ar 6.5, Ap 4.5, T 7, P 4, O 15].

Dark red, beige head and nice lacings. Smells of smoke, caramel and roasted malts. Taste is quite malty and smoky, some sweetness too, some ripe fruits appears as well. Very carbonated, lively pricking on the palate. Nice bitter finish. After some warming up, more intense sweetness arive and actually dominates and fight off the bitter finish

On tap @ Patricks. Dark brown body with a small beige head. Aroma of dark malt, mild roast, almost a hint of smoked malt. Not any strong roast flavor, but obvious before it floats away. Flavor is nice and feels quite refreshing in combination with roasted malt and smoke. Some sweet caramel, fruity and a light fruity acidity and balanced bitterness. A bit sweet in the aftertaste. A nice interpretation of a not to ordinary beer style seen in Norway. Enjoyable.

UPDATED: JAN 15, 2012 Vinous and oaky aroma. Flat and clear amber. Bittersweet, woody. Reminds me of a barrel-aged Altbier. Sweeter as it warms up, malty. On tap at Haandverkerstuene
