UPDATED: APR 1, 2014 Oily black beer with big bubbled head on top, smallish lacing attaches to the sides. Aroma has milk coffee, cream, bourbon, some berries, sacher-cake. Taste has milk coffee, dark chocolate, bourbon, wooden flavors and cream. Very oily body and medium-to-high carbonation. Well this is it, at least for me this has everything I look for in a bold Imperial Porter. I’m going to increase my score from 4,8 to 4,9. If only the head would’ve been more pleasant to the eye this would’ve been a straight 5/5 beer.

Tasted at Øl&Akevittmessen in Stavanger. Black in color with a frothy head. Aromas of strong vanilla, roastiness, oak. Flavors of chocolate, nice malt sweetness, chocolate, oak and faint burbon. Fullb body. Smooth to drink. A really good beer!

50 cl. bottle sampled courtesey of ClubGonzo and Inbreak. Bottle nr. 275. BBF 23/10/2013. Light ruby hue, blackish, little to no beige head. Thick liquorish and molasses in the nose, creamy charred whisky barrels, sweet thick, chocolate, thick goo caramel,… Taste is thick syrupy, creamy charred whisky barrels, bourbon-esque goo, thick creamy chocolate, vanilla and thick malts, light caramel dark fruits, oddly same creamy and touch too light. Still this is very, very excellent.

This brew is rich. Pours almost black with a shallow head that recedes slowly and dissipates. Strong aromatics push boozie dark malt afore leaving nothing to the imagination. Rich in texture with soft carbonation. Sweet with defined whisky essence. Grab a cigar and sip this beer slowly. Phenominal!

YES. Deep black color, creamy tan head though not much lacing on the glass. Rich dark chocolate aroma, cigar tobacco, bourbon. Taste up front is a little boozy, a little sweet but not cloying. Tobacco, whiskey, bitter chocolate, something like fig, more whiskey. Again, it is boozy but in the best sense of the word. Roast bitterness in the finish. Lots going on here, very well blended. Sip slowly and enjoy one of the finest porters you are likely to experience.

Bottle. Pours pitch black with a medium brown head that dissipates quickly with good lacing. Aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, whiskey, oak. Flavor is the same, medium sweet with obvious whiskey notes and just a bit of bitterness on the finish. Full bodied and creamy in the mouth. Warming finish, just a bit boozy. This is a great beer that hits all the notes well; the only thing I can think of to improve is perhaps a different barrel treatment

Old rating rerated 25.12.2013, 0,5l bottle (1st batch bottle #267) @ home:
Small brown slightly bubbly longlasting head. Aroma is very rich and balanced, raw licorice, mild bourbon, dark sugar, caramel, dark malts, vanilla, espresso, cocoa, oak. Taste is very rich and velvety, slightly sweet, licorice, dark malts, dark sugar, mild bourbon, chocolate, sour coffee, oak, caramel, vanilla. Medium to longlasting bitterness, thick sticky mouthfeel. Very nice, close to perfection!

Also had a bottle of a fresher third batch after the first one. The aroma is very neutral and kind of dry oaky. The taste is more in the same direction as the first one, but not as rich, and more dry oaky. The score would end at 5-4-7-4-12=3,2. A brief shadow of the first batch sadly.

Shared bottle at Cardinal. Black with a brown, creamy head leaving excellent lacing. Inviting aroma of vanilla, oak, bourbon and roasted notes on the nose. Mouth adds chocolate along with sweetness, alcohol and bitterness. Full body. Oily and smooth. Dry finish. Well balanced with a twist. Got us exited and ordering more. One of Norway’s finest.

Bottle @ mr. Hangover tasting. Aroma is deep roast, liquorice, mocca, hops, very impressive. Flavour is roast, liquorice, coffee, big hops, barrel, vanilla, whiskey, this that and more. Some butterscotch, but it really fits. Perfect balance. Lazy rate. Awesome beer.

Pours a black colour with a light tan head. Aroma of licorice, oak, wood and chocolate. Flavour of licorice, coffee, wood, oak and vanilla. Fantastic balance, there is a little alcohol stick in the aftertaste. The whiskey are not too present, but adds a nice touch to the beer. Full bodied and low carbonation. Overall, this is one of the best I’ve had.
