Sample at Patricks. Pours black with a thick tan head. Aroma of licorice, chocolate, coffee. Taste is medium sweet, light bitter. Full body, oily and creamy, flat to soft carbonation. This was a really pleasant porter, and a fine surprise from Ægir. 07042011
4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 stunetii (90) - Bergen, NORWAY, NORWAY - MAR 27, 2011
In my view, this is one of the best Ægir products that I’ve had thus far. Pours with a dark brown – almost black – color with a small but well retained tan head. The lacing is pretty remarkable, being tight and sticky.
This ale is not amazingly aromatic. The aromas that are picked up include a very focused burnt coffee smell, with faint hints of licorice and chocolate. The creamy mouthfeel is accompanied by a variety of flavors, notably coffee, toffee and licorice. There’s a wonderfully bitter climax right before the finish, leading to an almond flavor that lingers on for a few minutes. What’s surprising about this is how easy it is to drink, largely due to the virtual absence of any alcohol taste. Overall, this is an excellent beer, despite the somewhat weak aroma.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 berlinoise2go (476) - NORWAY - MAR 26, 2011
Bottle (50cl) from Vinmonopolet (Storo), Oslo. Very dark brown/black colour with a faint red hue. Inch-thick beige head with fairly good retention, leaving a solid, foamy ring. Lovely aroma of blackberries, tar, vintage port, licorice, coffee, sweet malt. Full-bodied, yet very smooth - almost light - mouthfeel. Soft carbonation. Nicely balanced salty-sweet taste of roasted malt, quite fruity. Bitterness is low, but becomes more dominant in the finish, which is relatively dry and woody.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 daje (1289) - NORWAY - MAR 6, 2011
Bottle shared with esp0r. Black as night itself, with a lighly tanned thin head. Malty aroma with coffee, licorice, chocolate and some fruit. Taste is plenty of licorice and some berries. A bit too much alcohol taste keeps it below 8, but a really good taste nonetheless. Taste followed by a decent bitterness to the end. Good oil feeling body. A serious good porter

Bottle from Vinmonopolets bestillingsutvalg - shared with Daje.
Black as night, thin offwhite head. Smells of chocolate and liquorice. Taste has much liquorice and some coffee. Good sweetness. Bittier finish that is discrete and smooth. And it really suits this beer. For me this beer is Ægirs first entry into the beer elite in Norway. Good work
