ElDesmadre (999) - Mikołów, POLAND - FEB 6, 2013
Bottle, kindly traded with Palme. Dark as the night (who would have guessed?), oily pour with a small, beige head. The aroma is absolutely fantastic, deep and complex. Dark chocolate, roasted malt, brown sugar, dark fruit (figs and blackcurrant), port wine, cork, licorice and dark bread. The taste is just a tad worse than that, thick, oily, full bodied, with a velvety carbonation. Rather sweet, balanced by a light bitter, warming, alcoholic finish. Very malty, chocolatey and fruity flavour, makes the impression of a wood aged brew. Aftertaste of dark bread, licorice, cork, subtle roasty notes and faint earthy hints. Deep, complex, harmonic. Brilliant!

Dark head, disappears quickly but leaves beautiful lacing to the glass. Scent and flavor is highly similar! Scent has just a little bit of chocolate in it. But taste has slightly more chocolate. Strong taste but it isn’t that powerful because of thickness. Pleasant beer.

Foffern (772) - Bodø, NORWAY - JAN 19, 2013
Bottle at home. Vintage 2010. Has a very dark and hazy deep burgundy colour with a small light beige coffee-like head. Sweet and roasty aroma with dark chocolate, roasted almonds, oak and dades. The flavour is wonderfully complex and rich with leather, oak, coffee, dried fruit, brown sugar, coca cola and some dark chocolate. Has a oily and rich mouthfeel, and a light bitterness. A fantastic beer with a great balance and wonderful richness.

Bottle ordered from Vinmonopolet, Norway. Pours quite black with nearly an inch high dark beige head. The head does not last very long but leaves some lacing. Aroma is good with the expected roasted malts, coffee and dark chocolate. Mouthfeel is pretty good. Flavour is dark chocolate, licorice, some hops is noticeable, and some alcohol but well hidden. This is a very nice porter, of the imperial kind.

Bottle. Medium high lasting brown creamy head. Without my lamp behind it I would have said black. Now I say very dark red brown body. Lovely mild and smooth coffee choccolate wood aroma with just a hint of the alcohol. Flavor likewise smooth and pleasant of choccolate liquorice and a good deal of hops bitterness that is however not too dominant. Low carbonation, long finish. Alcohol level seems just right. Very well balanced.

Draught 4oz sample from Churchkey in DC. Slightly reddish brown but nearly black pour. Darker beige head and fair lacing. Nose shows toast, roasty malt, chocolate, brown sugar and just a bit of dark fruit. Tastes similar. Lighter body.
