4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Drinking an Ægir amber ale is almost a weekend tradition at this point: it’s one of the best amber ale’s I’ve had in recent years and is truly a treat for me and anyone who happens to drop in for a visit. Life in the glass begins with a medium-brown pour, culminating in a tall fluffy, resilient and slightly off-white head. The lacing is tight and sticky.
The aroma is very powerful with an ample complexity: think caramel, apples, dark chocolate and a hint of spice. The mouthfeel is slightly watery and, for the first second, there does not seem to be much taste to it. But, after two to three second on the palate, there is a burst of chocolate and caramel that recedes into a nutty and slightly bitter finish. In short, swallowing it too quickly will leave very little in the way of taste. But, letting sit on the palate for a bit really turns this ale into a wonderful treat.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: AUG 3, 2007 Dark amber ale. Complex aroma with caramel and toffee, some coffee and tobacco. Fruitiness evident both in aroma and taste. More character from the yeast in this one than the paler ales. Very well balanced. The beer is malt-dominated, but with a soft bitterness. A wonderful beer! 04.08.07: According to the brewer the one I tasted was a 4,7% version. Very impressive!

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
50cl bottle from Fenaknoken. Batch 035AA, best before: 05.03.09. It poured a dark amber colour with a medium big off-white foamy head that setttled down fast in the glass. The aroma is fruity with notes of apple, malts, dark caramel and some spices I cannot figure out. The flavour is sweet with notes of malts, caramel, nuts and hops. It has a short aftertaste.

Bottle. Poured into a massive Viking flask with an etched effigy of a happy conquering Viking. American style, obviously. Amber colir (duh), thick tan head, decent lacing. Aroma of black pepper and caramel. Taste is smooth and smokey caramel. Not bad.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
500 ml bottle. Dark ruby red brownish colour. Don’t quite understand why it’s called amber as it is much darker than that. Delicate red berries aroma with significant amounts of münchener malts. A brief roasted note. Smooth texture with dryish bready flavours. Powdery hops that hide well into the background. Towards the end the hops are more prominent, but still there is for the most part malts that play the main role. A very nice beer. Lacks a little depth, but it is wonderfully balanced and the hops towards the ends are just brilliant.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: MAR 17, 2012 On tap. Dark amber body with a nice beige head. Heavenly aroma of malt, caramel and hop. Flavor is dominated by malt, but very well balanced with notes of caramel, a god hoppy bitterness, fruity, slightly roasted, nutty and bread. It’s complex and flavorful with a long finish. This is just a really great beer.

50 cl bottle in Grebbestad. Clearamber beer with a offwhite lacy head, not lasting. Malty aroma with anice touch of nuts. Hoppy and a bit sweet flavour. The aroma feels a bit thin but this beer has a good taste.
