COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

English: Aegir was the brewer for the gods in Norse mythology. Ægir Brewery offers a number of beer types - from light to dark. Interestingly, Ægir Brewery with its heathen theme has now brewed a traditional abbey beer. Originally, Dubbels were brewed by monks. The beer is light brown in color, medium heavy with a flavor of dried fruits and spices from the yeast. Enjoy the beer with strong cheeses and robust food, or alone just for the pleasure.

Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of OleR. Pours a cloudy deep amber with a very lively and rich off-white head leaving some lacework. Sweet spicy nose, quite some brown sugar and a little yeast. Medium body, heavy carbonation, brown sugars and dark dried fruits. Hardly any bitterness. Decent, but not really a sophisticated Dubbel. 140712

An intense fizz as i pop the cap of this one warns me that this brew might be coming out of the bottle before i start to pour it, it does; but not in a gushing kind of way, foam just rises slowly out of the bottle giving me time to pour it in the glass with out any spillage. (Almost) needless to say it quickly builds a great slightly off-white head witch subsides rather quickly leaving a half centimeter of foam. The beer itself is deep coppery, close to brown. Aroma is fruity with wood, caramel, tar and belgian yeast. Taste is mellow with some roasty notes along with the spicy yeastyness, figs and dates and a well balanced finish leaving hints of bitterness. Medium body and well carbonated.

Bottle. An unclear, amber beer topped by a dense, beige head of moderate size. Dried fruits and pine cones on the nose, some caramel and yeast hints. Rather fizzy in the mouth, full-bodied and semi-sweet, with flavors of caramel, dried fruits and bitterness. Lasting finish with caramel, dried fruits and bitterness. Not my favorite dubbel in any way, but it’s sure drinkable. Maybe some adequate food would be nice. 120623
