Bottle. Brown nutty colour. Malty, dark deep bready, dark dry fruity, figsy slight herby herbs. Full bodied, very nicely smooth texture. Malty sweetness, old fruity, some chocolate, milky even. Balances out quite ok. A pretty nice, flavour-packed, bw. Feels quite traditional, like a malty, heavy, one. Drinks well still.

Bottle. Pours hazy dark golden, with a big creamy off white head. Aroma is roasted malts with bread and dark fruits, prunes, figs and tobacco, as well as some sweet hoppiness. Medium to full body, with soft carbonation. Flavour is orangy hops with floral notes, sweet caramel malts with grain and cereals, fruity notes of prunes, as well as tobacco and vanilla.

500mL bottle, pours a cloudy orange amber with a small beige head. Nose is decadent, bringing out treacle toffee, caramel malts, and stone fruits. Flavour is quite sweet, but not quite cloying, with intense treacle toffee, candied sugar, stone fruits and alcohol. Very sweet but with lots of character. Alcoholic but not too boozy. A little sweet for me but this is well-made and an enjoyable slow sipper.

Caramelly chocolate aroma, bit weak in aroma but might be too cold. Some alcoholic notes in aroma as well. Taste starts with lots of milk chocolate finish has some of the chocolate with some balancing bitterness although a bit to bitter. Nice palate and appearance but too hoppy and not as complex as a barley wine should be.

Bottle received from a Norwegian trade with a redditor. Pours a deep waxed-teak decking mahogany red with a dense light-brown head which lingers around for a few minutes before receding to a frothy layer. Aromas are incredible - mango, peach, slight apple, toffee and caramel. Taste is caramel, toffee, malt sweetness and slight sweet red apple. Full bodied with a rich mouthfeel.

50cl bottle via Winter Secret Santa 2014. Pours a translucent, mahogany amber with a thin ring of white head. Nose is so spot on, candy, malt, chestnut honey, brandy, sherry, toffee, orange, spruce, juniper. Flavor follows right along, honey comb, toffee, orange, spruce, marzipan, candy, mild booze, some grappa. Finishes with some sweetness and some booziness but super smooth and SCARY easy to drink, even at 13%.

Bottle. Pours hazy amber with a diminishing tan head. Aroma is raisins, roasted malt, dark fruit, caramel, booze, herbs and ripe fruit. Taste is moderate+ bitter and near moderate sweet. Full body and sticky. Finishes with a firm bitterness and burn. I’d prefer less bitterness.
