2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 11/20 obguthr (2572) - Poquoson, Virginia, USA - OCT 30, 2011
Apple nose wih caramel overtones. Crystal clear champagne color, huge bubbly head, constant streams of carbonation. Overly fizzy harsh mouthfeel. Dry apple but with the mere impresssion of caramel. Not as complex as I had hoped, weak overall.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 madvike (1463) - Middleton, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 29, 2011
On tap at GTMW - Pours straw yellow with a thin white head. Aroma is light, dry apple, with a touch of cinnamon. Taste is dry and tart apple, smooth as hell, with a dry finish that has just a touch of spice. Light and effervescent in the mouth...very nice.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 BMan1113VR (6444) - Los Angeles, California, USA - JUL 24, 2011
Bottle. (2010 bottle labeled 2010.103.1 of 1148). A medium gusher. Pours with a massive white head that fades to a ring over a clear straw hued body with evidently violent carbonation. Big carbonic sting on the first sniff. Aromas of canned peaches, CO2, sweet apple, light sulfur, earthy, lightly musty and some minerals. Dry, somewhat acidic, medium tannin and green apple. A very honest replacement for a brut (dry) champagne. Lightly sulfury, a touch tangy. Very lively (violent) carbonation. Dry, medium alcohol, light to medium body behind the bubbles. Spritzy palate. Nice (at $15), but just a touch pricy for regular consumption.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 rudolf (2245) - Buffalo, New York, USA - JUL 18, 2011
Bottle. Clear gold, highly carbonated leading to a thin but persistent head (for a while at least). Nose is green apple skins, unripe white grapes & berries, musty & yeasty. Flavor is tart apples, alcohol is apparently with a fruity twang & more yeast character. It has some good things going on but fails to be cohesive.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 j12601 (4415) - Poughkeepsie, New York, USA - DEC 16, 2010
Bottle. A good amount of sediment in the bottle here, had to let this one sit for a couple of days to clear up, and even then managed to go from a nice clear straw gold to developing a bit of a haze. Still looks rather nice with a medium sized white head which stays strong for a while thanks in part to the lovely little laser etched nucleation sites on the bottom of my big fat Duvel tulip. Hooray for science! Smells lightly sweet with some light soft baked apple notes. Surprising disconnect between the aroma and the flavors, having none of the big soft apple I was expecting and instead turning cool and dry right away. Warm bit of alcohol on the finish with some soft apple. Improves a bit as it warms. Very nice.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 JohnnyJ (3037) - San Diego, California, USA - JUL 24, 2010
Clear gold pour, small fizzy white head, pretty typical. Apples, apple peal, tartness, and rather dry and floral. Pretty good for a cider.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Ernest (5181) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JUN 27, 2010
Bottle.
Head is initially small, fizzy, white, fully diminishing.
Body is clear light yellow.
Aroma is light notes of apple skin, flowers, and alcohol (a bit fusel).
Flavor is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic.
Light body, watery texture, fizzy carbonation, lightly alcoholic, lightly to moderately astringent.
Not much going on in the nose. Champagne-like pour is nice, but even after endless swirling it explodes on the tongue into froth...not the best mouthfeel. There are worse, there are much better.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 esjaygee (2583) - Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 9, 2009
Very pale yellow with next to no head. Very sweet aroma of apple, apple skins, spices. Very tart and dry body taste of apple, apple peel, tannins and spices. Reminds me of champagne with its effervescence.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 valpoaj (392) - Valparaiso, Indiana, USA - AUG 29, 2009
Backlogged Entry - From GTMW ’09 - Pale gold color with a strong apple aroma...sweet and inviting. Flavor is intense apple...high level of tartness, but a balancing sweetness. Dry finish makes this a pretty good ride for a cider. Very solid rendition of the style!
