3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Travlr (7975) - Washington, Washington DC, USA - AUG 15, 2011Chris at Ebenezer Kezar opened a 1953 bottle of this for us. Not sure which one it was, since it just had Affligem etched on the bottle. It was still more or less drinkable, very oxidized of course, but was still recognizable as a beer. A beer older than me.

Poured from a bottle into a snifter. Woah - lots of floaties! Muddy amber with moderate offwhite head that persists. Aroma is Belgian yeast, caramel and a whiff of banana. Taste mostly follows the nose - maybe a bit more fruit and biscuit in the taste. Fair amount of carbonation, somewhat of a crispness here. Overall, a decent beer, but too many great Belgian beers to seek this one out again.

Bottle pours golden and clear with a great head. Retention is not so good, however. Smells of some caramel and malt. Some fruity tastes, again bready malts and a dry finish with a sharp hopbitterness to it, making the beer very refreshing and invites for another one. Not bad, but not particularly impressive either.

Poured a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma fairly muted caramel malt. Watery body, flavour of the malt and some little fruityness.

Great abbey blond ale, pretty clear golden with a thin white head. Bready/cereal malt aromas are to the fore with a nice light fruitiness in back. Starts brisk on the palate due to good carbonation, then follows a very mildly tart centre with some biscuit like maltiness. I get some pear or green apple flavours on the far end of the centre and then a moderately dry and quick finish with a bitterness to keep the universe in balance.

Very delicious and refreshing. Full flavor which was not expected from a blonde. Yeast, biscuit, malt. Fruit. Complex and delicate, many flavors none too bold. Light body.
