UPDATED: DEC 1, 2007 Bottle 33 cl. Pours a dark amber with a tannish head and a nose of ripe fruits and caramel. Taste is heavily dominated by toffee, mixed with the typical malty dubbel. This is a pretty off-typical dubbel, but I have to admit I like it
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 robinvboyer (2130) - Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 14, 2007
aroma is malty, and full of ripe fruit, with a nice yeastiness to it. Flavour is well balanced between the malt, and yeast, and the fruit. a nice dubbel, but i’m finding the carbonation to be way too much, but other than that its good.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 hayduke (2445) - Eureka, California, USA - NOV 6, 2007
From a 750 ml corked and caged bottle, this opened with a loud pop. Poured into a couple Chimay glasses it was a cloudy reddish brown with a medium tan head. Nose was spicy with hints of coriander. Malts evident. Mouthfeel fairly smooth yet lively. Flavor somewhat sweet with a touch of fruits. Somewhat dry finish.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 DruncanVeasey (4800) - NUNEATON, Conference North, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - NOV 6, 2007
Glows red and hazy with pocked yellowish suds. Sniffs of cinnamon and gingery spice, red apple, overripe banana. Fruity, spicy dubbel with a hint of hop bitterness. Possibly chiccory, liquorice, wholemeal bread and yeast. Silky, spicy, solid ale.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 RaphaelN (195) - Peterborough, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 4, 2007
Bottle shared with a friend. Poured brown into an Affligem trappist glass. Tangy on the palate with taste of brown sugar, coriander, yeast. Wasn’t the most pleasing drink, but a decent dubbel.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 wilderthanyou (587) - Guelph, CANADA - NOV 4, 2007
Pours a unclear redbrown with a decent froathy beige head. The aroma is very doughy, as the beer warms up some more aroma comes out, a touch of orange zest and spice. The flavour is lightly malt sweet, with some yeasty dough, a fair bit of spice, coriander is present, a touch of orange rind in the finish. The palate is nice and velvety, with some light fizziness on the tongue.
All and all not bad, a little disapointing for a trappist brew though.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 SamGamgee (2451) - down the whirlpool, California, USA - NOV 4, 2007
UPDATED: AUG 3, 2008 33cl bottle at The Laughing Duck in Stockholm. Deep red with a big creamy head that leaves a thin layer of foam. Aroma is yeast and overripe fruits. flavor isn’t very sweet for a dubbel, and has a little more alcohol taste too. The flavors don’t come together well for me. Palate is a little too carbonated for my liking. Not one of my favorite duubbels, but its ok. (3) Rerate: 75cl bottle. Hazy red-brown with a big lasting beige head. A slightly tart berry’like fruitiness comes out in the aroma, along with some caramel, dough, and dusty alcohol. The flavor is a little thin on the malt, but has some caramel and nuttiness, with a little tangy fruit and yeast bitter bite in the finish. The palate started out over-carbonated and thin, but time and yeast were its good friends, producing a smooth, moderately carbonated and medium-bodied beer. Not the most impressive dubbel, but sampling it under better conditions revealed a pretty decent beer.
