Bottle. Pours mahogany color, lightly hazy and with a creamy beige head that lingers and leaves some lacing. Aroma is molasses, spice and slightly tart fruit. Flavor is sweet and fruity, peach, raisins, yeast, spice and a lingering bitter aftertaste. Medium body and gentle carbonation. Nice beer.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 lachesis (758) - St Idesbald, BELGIUM - DEC 9, 2004
Good dark-amber beer with a warm brown glow and a medium sized creamy head. Mild aroma’s of fine malts, dried fruits, some coffee hints and a touch of caramel and cakes. This beer also has a mild taste with soft hints of malts, caramel, some spices and a refreshing fruity accent. It has some sort of a lightness in it for a brown beer. In the afthertaste there is a subtile bitterness that goes wonderwell with that fruity maltyness.

Picked up at Whole Foods in Austin, Tx. Murky dark orange appearance with a frothy beige head. Good thick lacing - looks like a Belgian should. Enticing aroma of spearmint, chocolate, and tea. Flavor has some of the same accents with the spearmint showing through the strongest. Faint notes of chocolate as well. Mouthfeel has a bit of carbonation, but it feels right in this one. Overall, an excellent Dubbel.

Sharp, sweet nutty caramel aroma with some alcohol. Opaque brown/ruby color with a dense tan head. Tart and sweet in flavor with a slender body. Somewhat dissapointing in complexity though the flavors of plum, cocoa and caramel are pleasing. A bit oxidized.
