Roasted malt and liquorice in teh aroma. Sweet taste with liquorice, raisin and a bit of roasted malt. Hoppy bittersweet finish. Very nice abbey ale, not too complex but highly drinkable.

Red/brown colour, off white head, which lasts. Kind of soapy chocolate aroma, with hints of spice. Smooth and slightly spritzy palate, nice chocolatey, malty spicy flavour with light hops, well balanced, dry, and pretty enjoyable.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 krisbierjaeger (844) - dolores, Colorado, USA - JUN 17, 2002
UPDATED: DEC 23, 2003 12/03 rerate: gotta nick this beer's score back a few points: this has a nice aroma of sparkling wine, vanilla, some beef consomme, and the pulpy white inside part of a lemon peel. moderately sour orange peel flavor with some soapy perfume notes, that, in tandem with the woody dryness, aren't as appealing to me this time around. a great deal of yeast on a champagne body ( thin i mean) and champagne spritz. still engaging and of considerable merit. the last one-fourth of the bottle is the best, where some delicate sweetness demurely emerges-- but this also suggests that it is the alcohol itself finally winning me over and trying to corrupt my rating.
original rating: well-worn tarnished copper, slightly redder than the bottle; a county-fair blue ribbon quality head that refuses to yield, so ya gotta drink through it. cork colored head with a stream of diminutive fish tank bubbles necklacing up from the depths, this is an attractive beer--i'm sure the brewer carries snapshots of it in his wallet next to photos of the kids. aroma has a clean freshly varnished wood effect-- but by second pour i've awakened the sleeping giant (the yeast sediment) and thus the malt is mingling with the citrus and being all silly and flirtatious. the citrus effect increases as one works downbottle. what began as a sweet cola malt flavor quickly gained ocean depth in a scintillating discourse between malt and yeast that tended to make the hops the unfortunate 'third wheel'. absorbing drama.

Cork was extremely hard to pull, popped loudly when pulled. Seems to indicate an overcarbonation that was reflected once it poured, as I had an inch of brew and five of foam. Nicely buttery and creamy, nose of caramel and butterscotch. The beer itself was good, but the head was surprisingly watery--with a head that massive, I expected more body to it.
3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 LoveCaissa (873) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - MAY 30, 2002
HUGE white head and nice colour. The high carbonation makes the mouthfeel very fizzy, but I don’t really know how I like it. The first time I tried it I loved the sensation on my palate, but the second time it felt somewhat thin. Other than that the flavour is nice, even though the finish is too acidic for me.

A pretty decent Belgian Ale. Not very complex. Not as good as the triple.

Tastes like cider with hops. A combination that works quite well. Nice fruity flavor, a little too sweet, but a good hoppieness. A little too bubblie.
