A reddish-brown abbey ale brewed with dark malts. The secondary fermentation gives a fruity aroma and a unique spicy character with a distinctive aftertaste. Secondary fermentation in the bottle. (Serving temperature: 8-10ºC)

Bottle. Cloudy dark brown color with a thick tan head. Sweet aroma of malt and dark fruit. Flavor starts off mildly sweet but finishes dry. Nice malty character with some caramel and fruit. Solid.

Huge, thick, lasting head, gives you a moustache! Aroma is very weak, somewhat fruity. Color is nice reddish brown, slightly murky. Taste is dry with nice aftertaste. Nothing special, but I would drink again.

Orangey brown ale with a thick bubbly caramel white head. Malty and fruity aroma with some yeast. Sweet rich malt with notes of coriander and licorice, dryish finish, but overall very pleasant dubbel with a medium body. Metallic hops drop quickly but is retained for some time in finish.

Smells like prunes & I hate prunes. I won’t hold that against the beer though. Tastes sour& dry to me. Not as dark as I expected from a Belgian Dubbel but has plenty of malt, that’s for sure. Not real crazy about the flavor in this one. Glad it only cost $3.99 for a 750ml b/c I poured it out.

This poured an eartyhy brown color with an instantaneously collapsing, unimpressive white head. The aroma is malty sweet with scents of dried, dark fruits and hints of chocolate. Light bodied, the taste is of sweet malts, sweet-sour fruit, and alcohol. This is a nice seasonal warmer, but nothing special.

Dark brown beer, amber shine; thick & creamy yellow head. Roasted malts, Zachertorte, faint fruity nose (red grapes, plums) , chocolate. Sweet and roasted taste, again something fruity & sweet - Traubenzucker . Sweet, but balanced with both something fruity-sourish and roasted-bitter, which doesn’t spoil anything. Warming up, however does it a disservice - beer becomes more crude. Medium bodied, fruity acidity alleviates it, ends chewy all the same. Good Dubbel. Not at all BDS’ worst effort.

Bottle, Christmas 2004 LCBO gift pack. Amber-brown pour, big white head. Lots of yummy malt and yeast in aroma. Mouthfeel is medium yet quite active. Taste is spicy malt, with a long yeast finish (that can become slightly unpleasant after a while towards the end of the glass). The 6.8% is there, but not too strong or weak (I sound like the 3 bears). A very nice beer.

Bottle (best before 08-05-02) pours a thick brownish caramel, quite cloudy, large pillowy off-white head, with exceptional lacing.   Barnyard, bready, and earthy aroma.   Quite sweet as well with a hint of tobacco   Smooth malty flavor, bready, dark and sweet, with a bit of dark pitted fruit flavor albeit quite subtle.   Yeah, this is tasty.   Moderate body with a fairly medium mouthfeel.   Finishes sweet, bready, notes of earth and tobacco.   The mild sweetness of this beer is what really makes it enjoyable.   Glad I found one of the last ones in my area.
