Great creamy beige head on a dark amber/brown body. Spicy nose of malt, aniseed and some chocolate. Flavors of coffee, chocolate, malt with some aniseed to the aftertaste. Good interesting beer.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Ligth brown/deep amber color and very hazy, with a great silky smooth beige head. Nice lacing throughout. As it warmed the complexity increased as more malt and sugars are noticed. Very nice body, with a very smooth and somewhat clean aftertaste. A quality dubbel.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Dark amber color; generous, frothy head. Average aroma: malt, roasted malt, caramel. Not bad flavor, with roasted malts and nuts, but too thin, and short final.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: DEC 7, 2003 Light, malty aroma ... comes in a beautiful bottle, dark, reddish amber in appearance with an impressive head ... Stout alchohol flavor present at the start, with woody overtones. Malty on the palate despite bitter/hoppy start... This "Dubbel" is aptly named. You had better be in the mood for something with spirit if you are to tackle it. The beer takes on a slightly nutty flavor if the bottom yeasts are poured into your glass.

Pours a rich looking brown with a medium tan head. The stamp on the cork is 11/02. Could this be one year old? Nose is Very light spice, light sugar, plums, cocoa, and perhaps molded basement. I sat that because I can almost smell my drinking buddy's basement. The taste is pleasant. More light spice, some chocolate notes, more fruit and malt. Finishes very well also with little bitterness. Nice beer!

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: JAN 9, 2004 Typical dubbel appearance, perhaps a little darker than most. Bananas, chocolate, celery, horse, and plum in the aroma. Sweetish musty flavor, continuation of the celery theme, overall it weighs quite heavily. Strident carbonation spreads a final tingling bitterness. Creamy and a little funkier than most dubbels. Re-rate: comments are spot-on, but overall, this is better than I gave it credit for.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Aroma of champagne, fruit. Lots of head sat atop this dark crimson quaff. Rather one dimensional flavor, or at least more so than I was expecting....plum, raisin, alcohol....lots of carbonation. As it warmed, more of a spiked apple flavor came out, especially towards the finish....extra points for that, interesting.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Smells like eggs and old fruit: peaches and pears. Huge foamy head takes up 70% of the glass. Some light clove and banana, but more eggs and fruit. Thinner mouthfeel than Allagash and New Belgium. Flavors comsisting of malt-syrupyness, British malts I believe, dark peaches and plums, and some tobacco. Lost to Allagash and New Belgium.

Bottled. Red-brown colour, light brown head, irregular size bubbles. Fruity aroma, caramel, peppery note. Nice spicy hop aroma. Vinous character. Very fizzy carbonation, short finish.
