A reddish-brown abbey ale brewed with dark malts. The secondary fermentation gives a fruity aroma and a unique spicy character with a distinctive aftertaste. Secondary fermentation in the bottle. (Serving temperature: 8-10ºC)

Nice dense, creamy head of very fine bubbles. Excellent carbonation that keep the head there for the duration of the drink. Aroma of dark fruits (raisins, dates), caramel and some spices. Color is a dark ruby/brown. Flavor is slightly sour and dry with a bit of chalkiness. Mild spices which are intensified by the alcohol presence. Finish is dry and pasty. Not the best dubbel I have had but still ok.

Dark drown with a little ruby tint. Aroma of caramel malts. Taste is grainy malty chocolate with a bit of hop to round it off. Very good.

UPDATED: AUG 1, 2004 Slightly hazy with a brown-red colour. Largy pillowy tan head. Aroma of dark fruit, sweetened pears, citrus-peels, chocolate and spices. Yeasty and slightly unclean and thin flavour of roasted malt, spices and a sour chocolate (?). Spicy finish with notes of badly made vodka.

Large light brown head, good retention, minimal lace. hazy brown color. Nose of dark fruits, oxydation, mustiness and hints of chocolate. Medium body, good carbonation level. Yeasty flavors with a fruityness that rolls into some spiceyness, cinnamon and a hint of anise. Spicey medium dry finish. Diggin the Dubbels! Yeaaaa Baabaay!

Pretty similar to Grimbergen dubbel. Slightly artificial taste and a bit too sweet, but nice mouthfeeling.

Bottle. Medium brown, dark leather colored with a light tan head that initially was of large bubbles. The large bubbles subsided to a fine, creamy foam layer that stayed indefinitely. Nose is complex--very malt forward with alcohol, brown sugar, cider, caramel, nutmeg, raisin all present. Too carbonated, thin mouthfeel with maltiness, mutsiness, alcoholic heat, raisin, cardboard, mild sweatsocks. (like a cross between an overcarbonated barleywine and a Gueuze. Finish dry and astringent.

This was somewhat bizarre. Head of extremely fine bubbles, HUGE chunks. Candyish-sweet, glazed fruit smell (green grapes??) and also alcohol. Taste is oddly burnt and somewhat fruity-nutty. Sticky finish. This was odd, odd, odd. I really don't know how to characterize it. Many thanks to wunderbier for the trade!
