UPDATED: AUG 26, 2007 Rerate: since the Affligem brewery has been bought by Heineken, the beer has become more clear in color, and more sweet in taste. It just lacks the body it used to have. Really too bad. Original rate: 4.2. Beautfiul cloudy redbrown color, big lasting brown head. Aroma of slightly roasted malts, some caramel, fruity of dried fruit like prune, bit chocolate. Sweet taste, malty, slightly alcoholic. Nice full palate.

From old notes. Pours a cloudy brown with traces of yeast. Aroma of sweet malts, alcohol, and vanilla. Flavour is more intense than aroma. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPad

Bruinrood, mooie kraag die goed blijft. Ruikt goed : mout, fruit. De smaak is wat minder, zoetbitter met een droge afdronk. Te weinig body naar mijn smaak. Niet zo geweldig.

13/V/2012 - 33cl bottle @ De Heeren van Liedekercke - BB: 12/VI/13 (2012-496)

Clear reddish brown beer, nice bubbly beige head, pretty stable, adhesive. Aroma: lots of caramel, some mocha, dried fruits, pretty sweet. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: caramel, milk chocolate, pretty sweet, sugary touch, then mocha, little bitter. Aftertaste: cookie dough, caramel, some mocha, toast, dark chocolate, dry bitter ending.

huge frothy offwhite head. excellent lacing. mostly diminishing. flat thick dark reddish-brown body. aroma: heavy malty, milk chocolate, mild coffee, flowers, orange, clove. if: moderate sweet, light bitter. ff: moderate bitter sweet; long duration. palate: light body, watery texture, medium carbonation, metallic light alcoholic finish. após alguns segundos espuma ganha bonita aparência vaporizada, delicioso dulçor maltado, permeado por leve álcool e caramelo, aparenta mais teor que os 6,8%, toques amadeirados no paladar, menos enjoativa que outras belgas do estilo que degustei outrora, sabor condimentado, com toques de cravo e noz-moscada, cerveja balanceada, trazendo várias nuances sem ser enjoativa, 160 s

Faint aroma, barely smell anything has a nice dark amber red color. Nice foam, disappates fast though. Taste is quite ok, with a sweet flavor which reminds me of berries, overall a decent beer but i expected more because the tripel and blond beers are great beers as well... Oh well..

330 mL bottle. Good aroma of sweet cherry, cereal notes and mushroom like fermentation notes. Pours cloudy, a medium brown color with a thick lacy off white head. Sweet with just enough bitterness and sour funk to compensate. Smooth and full on the palate. A great dubbel! Imagining it with meat dishes flavored with soy or miso.

A: Poured a caramel color with good carbonation leaving a dirty white cap that quickly fades leaving a small ring with no lacing S: Some caramel, dark fruits and spice but not that big or appealing T: Upfront is some booze and dark fruits with hints of caramel and burnt sugar. The taste fades into a one dimensioanl booziness M: Warm and thin for the style O: Not even close to the best Dubbel’s I have had.

Oct 2009: Brown 33cl bottle with loads of life left according to the label. Poured into my Westmalle chalice. Clear and bright reddy-brown colour, a well formed tanned head sat on top. Sadly before I had taken a sip the head turned into a wispy covering and collar. Real Belgian feel and smell to this beer, yeast and hops attack your nose from the start. I thought it a bit fizzy to be honest, sharp and tangy, but just too fizzy for a great dubbel. The body seemed weak and watery for 6.8%ABV, pleasant enough, but lacking in richness and body for me.

Big alcohol taste with caramel, malt and dark fruit (raisin?). I do agree re the one dimension of this beer but do oh so like it!! Not THE best but still good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
