4.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
I like this balanced Trappist beer a lot, it has everything to be almost perfect, great balance between heaviness and sweet aftertaste, not too sweet.
Also its not trying to be too heavy like some of the 10 % alcohol Trappists which are in my opinion going a bit too far, because they already give you a little headache after drinking 1 too quickly.
Very, very good beer!

poured a nice dark brown color with a bone color head. A malty aroma with a roasted subltness too it. Taste was malty and mildly bitter and finished with a taste of alcohol.

OK, this Abbey Dubbel is something really special. An excellent head on top of the brownish/readish body. A superb beer.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
UPDATED: DEC 16, 2003 This is an excellent Abbey Dubbel and may even my best yet. Aroma is chocolate and caramel. Appearance looks about like every other Dubbel Ive had, brownish/red. Flavor is chocolate, caramel, apples, oranges, and berries complex for this style! The balance is perfect as the malt does not dominate. Palate is smooth with no evidence of the 7%. This is a top 10 beer for me!

4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
"I needed vise grips to get the cork out of this bastard but it was clear sailing from then on. The pour produced a mega head - foamy, tan, and with the end result being lacing at its finest. The body was a coppery dark amber sort of thing, and the aroma, well it was simply (!) seriously complex and lovely, featuring fruits and spices. Better yet, it tasted like it smelled. Mouthfeel and finish - yup to both."

4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Grapefruit and citrus strong in the scent. Somewhat sweet nose as well. Hazy reddish pour with an extremely thick head. Head lingers and lingers. Complex taste as expected. Quite the mix of tastes. Perfectly blended, like a story with a good ending this finishes clean and makes you want more. Sweet, sticky, malty, herby. Caramel throughout. Really really nice.

A strong showing in the dubbel category. Malt is well balanced by bitterness. Cherry, fruity, smallest hint of chocolate.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
33 cl bottle from a local supermarket. It pours a ruby/brown liquid with amber tones, with a very foamy and consistent tan head (it looks delicious!). It smells very hoppy and malty: resin and herbs everywhere, with nice roasted malt, yeast and dark fruit; there’s also a hint of vanilla. In the mouth, there’s an explosion of herbal hops, with the sweetness of the malt always present. It tastes very much like it smells, but more hoppy. It leaves a very pleasant aftertaste of malt, vanilla and herbs. It feels oily and a little above the average on carbonation; medium to full bodied. It ends dry. I guess you could call this an excellent dubbel. It is difficult to ask for more. Alcohol is very nicely blended. Nice presentation; you know it’s an abbey beer from a distance.
