It looks better than it tastes, but it’s still not a bad selection. Doesn’t have quite the ’bite’ of alcohol that I like in a beer of this type.

Boasting a nutty, toffee-ish character with some chocolate notes thrown in for good measure. Medium-bodied with a rather watery finish and a cheap sweetness closing the show -- this is not well made. Did they drop refined pop sugar in this? It hits you in a bad way too. This is not how I remember Affligem. Back to the drawing board.

Rød brun øl, brygget på normal belgisk gær. Duft: Krydret, belgisk og let sprittet. - let karamel Smag: Stærk, meget syrlig, krydret - ikke så tung som andre klosterbryg. Bitter eftersmag. For meget kulsyre.

Aroma is a rich sweet roasted malt scent. Color is a hazy brown with just a hint of orange. Carbonation is good but seems a bit fizzy with a loose head that dissipates quickly. Taste is fizzy and bitter. Starting with a medium body it goes down with soo much fizz that it is almost hard to swallow. Finish comes on with a mild sweet malt flavor, just a faint hint hops flavor and a good bitterness. Its just not as bold as a Belgium Dubbel Ale should be and way to fizzy.

I personally was unimpressed with this beer. One could tell that it’s a high quality product, yet it is dull and boring. Doesn’t compare to Affligem Triple. Will pass on next time.

A: Poured a caramel color with good carbonation leaving a dirty white cap that quickly fades leaving a small ring with no lacing S: Some caramel, dark fruits and spice but not that big or appealing T: Upfront is some booze and dark fruits with hints of caramel and burnt sugar. The taste fades into a one dimensioanl booziness M: Warm and thin for the style O: Not even close to the best Dubbel’s I have had.

On Tap at some tiny dive of an Irish pub near the Dam square, Amsterdam. Clear dark brown beer, tiny white head. Light dry palate. Creamy malt, some ninerals. Crisp finish. That’s about it - depressingly average.

Amber coloured beer with small head. Licorice and caramel notes, in my opinon it’s a bit sweet for a Dubbel..sometimes even slightly winy. Strange to me, although I can drink it. I’d add more body.

Bottle dated 26 07 03 and had an older looking all black label. The top of the 750 mL bottle exploded off and poured a murky dark mahagany with a lot of carbonation and a head that consisted on large bubbles and fell rather quickly leaving within a minute a completely flat beer. From aroma to flavor to mouthfeel to finish this beer very much reminds me of a cheap table red wine. It is very dry and winey with a crisp tartness. Acidity and astringency are very high and the finish is that of freshly chewed grape skins. Very faint caramel and that fact that I am sitting right next to the bottle it came out of are the only things keeping me from forgetting that I am drinking a beer. Some light fruit flavors also shine through though strawberry isn’t something I get much from beer and a hint of dark cherries finds it way. Either this bottle way very improperly stored are this beer should not be kept for three years.

Bottle, vintage 2003. Small light brown head, brown hazy body. Aroma of nuts and malt, oily texture, sweet.
