layered and complex. doesn't taste like a christmas beer, no spices and not that dark and rich. quite floral, surprisingly bitter. ok, and generally quite nice and warming but not worth 10$per bottle

UPDATED: JAN 6, 2008 I tried you fresh last month... too sweet, too spiced the perfect candidate for aging right?? Well, I guess... I had a 97 bottle tonight and although time has been kind,it canít fix everything. If you have it, age it... but better yet, save your cash.

Huge head, uncontrollably so but with good lacing. Fruity smell with some alchohol in the nose. Fruit sweet taste, thin body. Nice clean crisp finish with a very light aftertaste.

Winter beers can be a fickle thing, there is a tendency from some brewers to load up on ícomfortsí like cinnamon and what youíre left with is some kind of sparkling herbal tea. But when theyíre done well, itís a really special thing. I picked up this Noel by complete chance from the reduced section of an Acme in May. Poured into a traditional glass, itís a luxurious deep red - very little head. The aroma is typical abbey, but very rich on the nose. Taste is just wonderful: liquorice, orange, and sugar flavours are upfront with a lovely warming, brandy-esque finish. My only complaint is that it is slightly over-carbonated, but I from what I read from other reviews, that dulls and more of the texture comes out, so if I can ever find another one of these I will be hoarding one for a few years.
This actually tastes like christmas in a wonderfully specific way without being completely obvious. The balance of flavours here is so fantastically done, you canít quite pinpoint what it is that makes the beer so special - and to me - thatís the mark of a great beer.

Bottle. Poured a hazy amber, with a nice head. Had a fruity smell. Taste was a bit more hoppy than I expected. Very nice.

UPDATED: APR 7, 2004 - 2001 version; nice amber, reddish color, spicy aroma with whiffs of alcohol, light nuttiness, with fruitiness like wine; some brussels lace, spicy, fruity-winey flavor, noticeable alcohol

Smells of a very soft cocoa, bananas foster, and of french toast. Pours a very nice effervescent copper with a nice head. On the palate, much like the nose, but surprisingly mild and balanced. I definitely feel the bouquet was more prominent to the nose then to the palate. All in all, nice Belgian but would have like more on the palate.

750ml bottle. Poured dark brown with a nice head. Sweet and syrupy, caramel, nutmeg, and clove notes along with distinct íbananaí esters. I think I served a little too warm. Would like to try this again chilled a little longer.

Poured a muddy brown with tons and tons of bottled yeast. A full four fingers of head retreated slowly to leave minimal lacing. Great aroma with lots of malty goodness. Possibly slightly drunk already when I started tasting this one. Very smooth, nice balance of malts and hops, finished the 750 mL bottle way faster than I expected to.
