Alengrin (3019) - BELGIUM - DEC 11, 2014
Affligem’s hoppy Christmas ale, usually regarded as the best in the series. This rating is from old tasting notes (eleven years ago) and I have yet to re-rate this beer in its current form, as I have a suspicion it has undergone some changes (for the worse) recently, like its Blond and Dubbel nephews. Pours a hazy peach blonde under a thick and moussy, off-white head; fruity aroma, grassy and somewhat peppery hops, yeasty profile, orange, peach and banana, malt sweetish with soft mouthfeel evolving into a crisp and long, dry hop bitterness, though not as much as in the current ’Belgian IPAs’ we see arising everywhere; some vague solvents as well. Yet well-balanced and definitely one of the more interesting products among mass-marketed Belgian abbey beers.

Hermod (3956) - Vantaa, FINLAND - MAR 14, 2015
33cl bottle. My second beer from Brouwerij Affligem this evening. It pours cloudy amber, huge white, thick head. As the head settles, I get citrusy notes, kind of floral, perfumy notes quite strong. Pleasant. Flavor has white bready, spicy yeasty notes, candy sugar sweetness. Some alcohol coming through in the finish. Finish has belgian hops, quite bitter and dry. Enjoyable brew.

Bottle. A orange beer with a big off-white head. The aroma is of yeast, fruits and spices, so is the taste. Medium body with a sweet light dry finish.

Bottle at yespr’s place. Pours a golden colour with a nice head. Sweet malty and yeasty aroma. Flavour of yeast, spices, wheat, some spices, toasted malt and citrus. Dry malty and bit spiced finish.

Clove and coriander. Good looking with a thick white head. dry finish. Wouldn’t mind getting my hands on some a bit closer to the brewery - it might taste of hops.

TBone (13703) - Pori, FINLAND - APR 10, 2008
Bottled (BB 10/2008)
Slightly hazy orange color, good off-white head. Mildly fruity and yeasty nose with woody hops. Medium bodied (on fuller side). Quite yeasty flavor. Dry and fruity - spicey and hoppy finish. Spiceyness and light alcohol in the aftertaste. Well-made standard Belgian blonde, but not very complex or interesting.

TEJA (1536) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - MAR 27, 2009
A bottle that I had forgotten and was 3 years over best before date. Big white foam that fast goes down to a lasting lase. Small amount of solids. Small plesent typical belgian phenolic aroma. Yeasty taste with medium body. Eaven though the age it is still fresh.

Tap, 33 cl. Blonde beer with many bubbles and a medium white head that lasts. Aroma is malty and spicy. The taste is grainy, malty, hoppy with a bitter aftertaste. Decent agreeable ale.

mickut (276) - Espoo, FINLAND - MAY 1, 2010
Bottled. Pours hazy golden with pillowy white head, a bit of flaky sediments. Taste is medium sour. Palate has a light body, wet sticky mouthfeel. Aromas have surprising complexity with spices and citrus.
