Amber color with some Orange tint. Nice hoppy flavor with some spice to it. Probably should have had it at a colder temperature.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
750 ml bottle into signature chalice, bottled on 6/4/2013. Pours fairly crystal clear bright golden color with a 1-2 finger dense and fluffy white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big lemon, apricot, pear, apple, light banana, pepper, clove, honey, candi sugar, bread, herbal, floral, grass, light bubblegum, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, pale malt, and earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of lemon, apricot, pear, apple, light banana, pepper, clove, honey, candi sugar, bread, herbal, floral, grass, light bubblegum, and yeast earthiness. Good amount of earthy yeast spiciness/hop bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, apricot, pear, apple, light banana, pepper, clove, honey, candi sugar, bread, floral, grass, light bubblegum, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish fora good bit. Fantastic complexity and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, pale malt, and earthy hop flavors; with a crisp malt/yeast/hop balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly prickly mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an awesome tripel style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, pale malt, and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and crisp to sip on for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

2.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Tasted this Belgian abbey tripel many years ago but since the brewery has done some restyling meanwhile, I thought it was about time for a re-rating. Pours a deep ’old gold’ colour with almost no sparkling, under a thinnish yet stable, off-white head without much lacing. Aroma of freshly cut orange peel, freshly grated ginger, gin, a lot of iron, sweet lady’s perfume, rosewater, violets, fresh pineapple, grapefruit, peaches in syrup, warm apple cake, honey, amaretto, pancakes, raspberries and truckloads of white candi sugar. Taste begins with an almost sugary sweetness of candied orange, sugar apple and honey paired with a bitterish and slightly sourish dried orange peel effect, caramelly malts underlying, a bit metallic, smooth with soft carbo, drying coriander, ending in a finish of lingering, bready yeastiness, warming and almost wry, liqueur-like alcohol and grassy hop bitterishness, but most of all the almost cloying ’sugariness’ sticks to the throat. Has an industrial feel to it, like the other Affligems nowadays; clearly overladen with sugar syrup to boost the alcohol and too much residual sugariness remains as a result of that. Very average tripel at best - not a whole lot better than its Leffe or Grimbergen counterparts. This type of industrial tripels give the whole style, which in itself has seen a lot of overexposure, a bad name. Given the choice without further options, I’d choose this over Leffe Triple or Grimbergen Tripel any time, but that’s about it. I’m beginning to regret Heineken’s interferences in Belgian beer heritage. Heck, this even feels like a pimped strong lager - is this still top-fermented anyway?

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Quite clear yellowish beer with a medium bubbly head. Aroma is yeast, malt, some spices. Taste is a bit sweet, malts, fruity, yeast, a hint of alcohol. Finishes bitter. Maybe could be a bit fuller in all aspects?

Heldere gouden kleur met een goede kraag. Ruikt mout, kruiden. Beetje fruitig. Smaakt zoetig, kunstmatig, snoep.
