4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Balazs (562) - Budapest, HUNGARY - JUL 8, 2010
Poured honey yellow with a big off-white, quickly collapsing head. Coriander, apple, white grapes, lots of malts, sugar in the aroma. Clear, dense body with medium carbonation. Strong, with clearly detectable alcohol taste. Sweet aftertaste that doesn’t’ go away. A bit too sweet for me, but the fruitiness makes this beer very enjoyable.

Best before date is 21 06 07, written on the side label (originally rated January 2006). Pours a beautiful hazy golden-amber colour with a nice slight off-white creamy head. Very good retention, with some thick also-creamy lacing. Mild carbonation, but where the bubbles are coming from, they come lively. Great nose with some Belgian yeast and citrus. Very smooth and creamy mouthfeel. The taste is pleasant, but very mild. Not rich with flavours, like other tripel. Starts off with the yeast, then the bitterness comes along, mixed with the fruits. Some dark fruit flavours appear in the aftertaste. Gets better as it warms up. A very nice tripel, but still does not beat Chimay Cinq Cents.

Had this at the Pittsburgh Great European Beer Festival at the Sharp Edge Beer Emporium 6/2010. Looks like a pale lager. No head. Just a clean old beery smell. No CO2 on the tongue. Taste is slight fruit background and a bitter palate. Medicinal finish. Not as refined as other trippels I’ve had.

750ml bottle. Pours a hazy golden color with a thick white head and some lacing. The aroma was pleasant with a mixture of yeast, citrus, hops, and grass. The taste was sweet with light hops and malts, candy sugar, yeast, various spices, and alcohol. The mouthfeel was smooth and lively, a very full bodied beer.

Beautiful color, floral and complex taste, somewhat spicy aroma and a damn good beer. Just don’t serve too warm.

Poured from a bottle purchased in Toronto at the Summerhill LCBO store. Poured warm golden-amber with some haze and an off-white, 1 fingered head. Subtle aroma of hay and butter. Medium bitter taste with a noteable hit of alcohol flavour near the finish. Lively but not intense carbonation. Quite a complex brew, not one for the feint of palate, but overall very good. Certainly my favourite Affligem.
