COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Not your typical "Jelly of the Month Club" beer. Dark roasted malt and bittersweet cocoa and coffee flavor and aroma burst from this pitch black milk stout. The full body and sweetness are derived from the addition of lactose (aka milk sugar) which is not fermentable by beer yeast. A healthy dose of English Kent Goldings hops provides a counterpoint to this aleís rich and complex maltiness.

Poured from a bottle at home. Pours a dark color with a caramel head. Smell of roasted malt, cocoa and coffee flavor. Aroma is the same...coffee, cocoa with some sweetness. Taste is the same, with a lot of sweetness in the end of it. Really good milk stout.

22oz bottle, from Party Town. Shared with caterwaul and co. Labeled 7%. Brewed and bottled at ATG, West Minister, Maryland.. Very odd. Thanks to Caterwaul for pointing that detail out. Awesome label. Black color. Good thin half-finger of light brown head. Awesome cocoa nibs, vanilla, light roast in the aroma. Good earthy hop, hint of pine. Some noticeable lactose. Moderate to bigger sweet taste, good light to moderate bitterness. Awesome texture... Good chewiness, a bigger, thicker body, despite the medium to bigger feel. Slightly dry in the finish. At the end, though, still a milk stout, which isnít my favorite type of thing. This is a very well done example of the style, with an awesome texture to it, but itís still a little sweet for me. Go figure, I donít like sweet stouts being too sweet. I guess itís a relationship that will never work. My sample was very enjoyable, though. I feel as though I would LOVE it, if I was a fan of sweet stouts. WOW, awesome to enjoy with my sandwich, though. The savory character of my signature sandwich is a perfect pairing with the bigger sweetness of the style. I guess how thatís I should enjoy sweet stouts. With sandwich...

3/9/14. 22oz bottle from the brewery, shared while brewing at home. Black pour with a creamy tan head. Mild roast in the aroma, chocolate, nicely malty. Nice flavor, very smooth, milk chocolate, mild roast and coffee, hints of cream. Nice slick mouthfeel. Tasty.

24.03.2014, tap @ Crowbar:
No head, just some bubbles. Aroma is slightly sweet, caramel, dark sugar, dark malts, licorice, lactose, grass, coffee, butterscotch. Taste is slightly sweet, dark malts, dark sugar, sweet licorice, grass, caramel, lactose, coffee, hints of cardboard. Little bitterness, slightly watery mouthfeel. Kind of boring.

On tap at Crowbar. Dark brown colour. Roasted malts aroma, hints of chocolate. Well-balanced chocolate sweetness, a bit salty, roasted caramel. Oaty milkiness. Not exactly a milk stout, but very enjoyable.

Thanks to drowland for the share. Really enjoyed this caramely sweet stout. Big dark pour with beige head. Lactose, sugar, caramel in the nose and taste. Heavy malt body with relatively low carbonation. Just a little bitterness at the end. Nice.

Tap @ Beer Temple. Black color, short beige head. Aromaís of fruit-sweets, schuimpjes, some roast. Sweet, red fruit retronasal, peardrops. The flavor is much better, moderate sweet, roasted malts, some lactose. Medium bodied. Flavor lingers, but hardly any bitterness.
