Not your typical "Jelly of the Month Club" beer. Dark roasted malt and bittersweet cocoa and coffee flavor and aroma burst from this pitch black milk stout. The full body and sweetness are derived from the addition of lactose (aka milk sugar) which is not fermentable by beer yeast. A healthy dose of English Kent Goldings hops provides a counterpoint to this ale’s rich and complex maltiness.

This beer pours very thick dark black, minimal dark brown foam head. This is a very rich, sweet stout that works great as a dessert beer. The aroma is chocolate, Caramel, and sweet notes. The flavor is pretty sweet, but not over the top. Lots of chocolate and candied character is present atop a rich, smooth, delicious malt. There is a hint of organic earthy root character, and a touch of hops in the start, but to put it simply. This beer is the bomb. Very good.

Against The Grain is a thick full bodied endeavor, pouring motor oil dark opaque brown with a quickly receding thick viscous head. The ECG hops are a perfect match here, lending earthy rooty qualities. Sweet but overly so. Nice milk chocolate qualities.

16oz can @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Aroma of roasted malt and molasses. Opaque black color, Heavy, rocky brown head that drops to two-fingers, stripes and bands of lace. Taste is velvety chocolate malt that is lightly roasted. It moves through medium carbonation to a finish that shows light hops as well as light alcohol. A solid Stout by any measure. I wonder if it would work as the base for an ice cream soda? Good stuff.

damn good first impression! It is sweet, but doesn’t cross the line into cloying. Assertive dark roast with milk sweetness. I’m fine with it. 16ounce can
