COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Not your typical "Jelly of the Month Club" beer. Dark roasted malt and bittersweet cocoa and coffee flavor and aroma burst from this pitch black milk stout. The full body and sweetness are derived from the addition of lactose (aka milk sugar) which is not fermentable by beer yeast. A healthy dose of English Kent Goldings hops provides a counterpoint to this ale’s rich and complex maltiness.

Pours a deep burnt umber color with two fingers of gaseous khaki foam. Nose is sweet chocolate syrup with nice underlying roast quality and hints of dark fruit and a touch of anise. Palate follows but has less complexity than the nose had hinted at. Rich smooth chocolate notes mingle with some earthy roast and slight nuances of nuttiness and dark fruit. Not bad but at $13 a bomber I will not be revisiting.

Bottle. Black pour with a small, thick, foamy head that fades to a ring and leaves some webbing. Aromas dark chocolate, dark roast, lactose sweetness, and light caramel. Tastes bitter and sweet throughout. Lactose, milk chocolate, bitter coffee grounds and dark roast. Medium body.

A very nice, complex stout. Pours a brown-black with a brown head. Smells of coffee, lots of chocolate, and some cinnamon. Taste is sweeter then the smell would suggest, very creamy, with a bitter chocolate finish. Had in the bottle.

Bottle. Pours like a stout -- reddish black with a thin but pillowy top. Smells like a stout -- sweet and roasty. Drinks like a stout -- sweet, roasted malt, a bit of milk chocolate, a tinge of cream. Finishes with just a kiss of a nice American ho. (#5614, 8/10/2014)

Dark black pour with no head formation, even though there was a fine carbonation. Sweet roasty nose with a touch of chocolate and licorice. Smooth semi smokey and semisweet flavor with a slight earthy creaminess throughout, ending with some roast and earthy dark cocoa. Also a touch of licorice throughout.
